With flying colors. Between the Sony and the Batis they are neck and neck. I壇 give the edge to the Sony on look and rendering plus function button but it is bigger on one hand and faster as well. If you travel and you want maybe to save a few dollars get the Batis . I only wish it was a 200mm as I need that more. I知 not buying the new 70-200 I decided it just rent it. I知 kinda backing out of shooting. I値l take jobs on as always . I have my kit 20,35,65,135 and A9II so I知 fine. I知 looking at the A7iv though. But I want to test it first

I really want a small travel cam. I知 going to NY for my 65th and I do have the ZV1 but maybe want something a touch more power or ZV 10 and my 20,35. Not sure

From what I saw in a review the resolution change from 24 MP to 33 on the A7 IV was a minor update.
looking at the images of the same exact scene it was difficult to see any difference between 24 MP & 33 MP. so I think the resolution difference is insignificant in the real world

I think 24 MP is the sweet spot for noise performance. I value that over resolution personally.

Chez,

The Zeiss Batis 40mm F2 CF is worth the cost even if it is an few year old now. I bought a used one that is perfect.
The rich colors, contrast, lack of aberrations, and good focus are all there.

Batis 135 in 2021: I was in Alaska (pandemic revenge travel) on a moving train having loads of fun with my A7iii + Batis 135. Alternating between close-to-the tracks foliage and distant scenery. The Batis was spectacular. Did I mention fun? As an amateur photographer, this is the kind of day I dream of.

I concur on the Batis 40. It took a lot of heat (and rightfully so) for the close focusing/aperture stopping down issue early on which sort of detracted from how amazing the IQ in this lens was/is.

I'll say this every time this conversation comes up. If you hike and you're looking for a long prime lens to go on your hikes with you, this should be at or very near the top of your list. It's light, it's dead sharp and it takes beautiful images. I've posted different images taken by this lens elsewhere on this site in the past. But here are a few more...

I've also used this lens to shoot a concert in a small venue. While it performed quite well in those circumstances, the venue was a bit too small to use a 135. But I'd have no reservations using this in a similarly dark-lit area, provided there was more space for me to back up.

Liftedspirit, those are really nice. I lug around a 200-600 for those long landscape compressed photos. This lens looks like it does it really well at 135. The lens still isn't cheap though even on used market. It's not Sony 135 price but it is still a pretty penny.

Thank you! I carry my 100-400 when I know I'm staying closer to the car or I know there's a good chance I'll need it.

The Batis is good for the 100 - 200 range, but those longer lenses still can't be beat in certain scenarios. Having said that, there have only been a very few instances where I felt like I missed the shot due to the 135 not being long enough. (wildlife scenes excluded)
