p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Batis 135 in 2021?

Hi all!!
Since the release of the 135 1.8 I haven't seen posts about the Batis and I would like to know opinion from people who are shooting it. Events in dark places? I bought it to pair with the 35GM and while I wait I'm reading about it. Any opinion or advice is welcome. Thanks in advance!!

It is a great lens. Sharp, beautiful rendering and superb out-of-focus areas. And since it has optical stabilization, I find it as useable as the 135mm GM in lower light. (The GM is faster, of course, but no stabilization.)

Thanks Mike, nice photo!! How is the rendering compared to 35Gm, would you say they're similar?

Thanks.

I haven't shot the 35mm GM, so can't comment.

But comparing the Batis with the 135mm GM*, I'd say the GM wins by the smallest of margins. They are both so good that it seems ridiculous to rank them that way. For me, the Batis won due to its smaller size, weight, OIS, and price (I bought mine used and it was an absolute bargain.)

* I have shot both.

I bought it used and a bargain too. Four months and less than 600€. Reading your comments I'm happy and the buyer remorse are gone

Pretty similar indeed, both very neutral, which is how i like it personally. The GM stopped down to f2.8 will have slightly less cats eye effect, but thats just an effect of being faster (both lenses being designed for similar mechanical/optical vignetting at their respective max apertures.

The Batis will get you very similar looking images, and if you gey at a good price still makes a lovely and relatively small and light alternative to either a faster and heavier lens, or a larger and heavier zoom.

The Batis 135 is also a ridiculously good landscape lens. Sharp everywhere at any aperture, great contrast and the light weight means it's an easier 'luxury' lens to throw in my bag to compliment my Loxia 25/85 standard landscape kit. It's not small, however, just light. But optically sensational...zero behaviorial issues, so to speak

It's also worth remembering that f/2.8 at 135mm still gets some pretty impressive subject isolation. Several of the following photos could have benefited from deeper DOF, I think.

Good too see again great shots from the batis. The images thread is very slow so I thought everybody changed for the GM. These photos are really outstanding. Being neutral is great as a start point for anyone looking for a particular mood, for me is perfect as it is. Many thanks for your opinions!!

Thanks! 600 Euro is a great deal on the Batis...it's unreal value at that price and you definitely won't be disappointed. In Canada the GM is $2600 CDN new...600 Euro is about $860 CDN, so that's a price on the Batis you won't regret.

my Zeiss Batis 135mm F2.8 OS is a fantastic lens
I bought one used from KEH.com

The optical stabilizer allows me to get nice handheld portraits, landscapes, and close ups

I still use it, and it's become a work horse for my landscapes. It will be in my backpack for a long time...

2021, 2051, 2091, an excellent lens is an excellent lens. I prefer the manual focus and the speed of the APO-Sonnar 135/2, but if I were looking for AF, the Batis would be my choice.

Received it... Feels better than I remember the batis 25. Really like the size/weight, almost like the 35GM. Both lenses fit perfectly in the PD everyday 5L, one lens attached to the rIII.

Big time admirer of the Batis 135, had it for over 3 years now and it is my favorite lens to shoot with. You mentioned no threads but there is a image here on FM started this year, some really great examples there.

Clearly it's a different focal length and AF vs MF but this lens interests me in the same manner the Loxia 85 does. Image quality over outright fast glass. I lean towards the Loxia 85 based on focal length though, but from what I've read this lens is a real winner.
