Agreed, the main issue with the Tarmon for me is that it takes away much of the incentive to use primes...

Don't you have a feeling that this is a pretty heavy 2/35 lens?

I fully appreciate the ability to occasionally through to magnificent 2.8/200ish area but majority shots are 35mm or something that is achievable with a little bit of crop on a high resolution body.

After using it for a while do still find it worthy carrying around? No second thoughts?

For this page, ruthenium's used focal lengths:

35 x 6
46 x 1
50 x 1
93 x 1
119 x 1
150 x 3

If 50mm is still considered "a little bit of a crop", he missed out on 5 of 13 pics if he had used a 35/2.

Rather than a heavy 35/2, it could be considered a light 70-200 2.8 (with a little bit of a crop for 151-200mm) with not only the addition of 35-69mm, it has 1 stop faster 35mm. I get it.

Discussions of lenses are complicated because lenses are more than photography tools. They are also a) collectables, b) fetish items, and c) possibly status statements (like watches). As an unrelated example, I suspect that the 600 GM can be both a useful tool and a strong status statement.
Tamron 35-150 is much more a working tool, a trusted workhorse, than anything else. The lens has few weaknesses and performs well from 35 to 150 mm; it also can be used wide-open, when necessary, without sacrificing image quality. Yes, the Tamron might be lacking the glamour of other lenses, e.g. the Sony 70-200 GM II, yet in practice, in general use, it is a more useful lens. I do use the Tamron much more often than my Sony 70-200 GM II even if I very much like the latter at 200 mm (I would certainly use the 70-200 GM II instead of the Tamron, if most shooting had to happen in the 150 – 200 mm range).
It is true that zooms tend to be used more at their extremes. I don’t have the statistics, but it would not surprise me if most (60-70%) of my pictures have been taken at 35 or 150 mm. I don’t think there is anything inherently wrong with this. At 35 mm, I would often zoom with my feet instead of slightly changing the focal length. When zooming in, it often makes sense to go to 150 mm for best magnification and/or subject isolation.
To oversimplify things, let’s consider the Tamron as a switchable two-in-one 35 f2.0/150 f2.8 lens. From this simplistic point of view, the possible alternatives zooms are 24/70 f2.8, 24/105 f4, and 70/200 f2.8. Which one to pick for general shooting? By “general” I mean all the things we take pictures of when travelling with a partner, family, or friends: a mix of landscapes, environmental portraits, portraits, nature and wildlife, food, art, street life etc. (some in low light!). My pick would be this “switchable two-in-one 35 f2.0/150 f2.8 lens.” It cannot do 100% of the items on the list but I believe it gets close to 85-90%. I understand that the size and the weight of the Tamron 35-150 can be a serious deterrent to many; there are also places on Earth where one may want to be very discreet. At the end, Tamron 35-150 is one of those practical choices that may or may or may not be right, depending on the circumstances.

Yes, I think it often gets lost in the technical discussions, but this lens simply produces nice images .

Very nice. What software are you using for the noise reduction if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you!
99.9% of post processing I do in DxO PL6 (using the latest revision). Lately, I often find myself using DeepPRIME XD with the Noise Model set to -50 (also the Lens Sharpness at 0, instead of the new DxO PL6 default of +1).
When working on the two pictures from L'Oceanogràfic, I exported the fully corrected TIFF files from DxO PL6 to Topaz Photo AI. The later applied its own denoising (that is, on top of DeepPRIME XD) and added sharpening, then generated the final JPG. The result looked satisfactory. This was more an experiment rather than a routine. I am simply interested in the development of Topaz Photo AI and don't mind supporting the product even if I almost never use it in my regular work.

For those of you that have owned the Tamron for more than a year, have you had any problems with the weather sealing or dust? I have heard that this is a frequent criticism of some of the less expensive/older model lenses in the Tamron lineup

In the last 2.5 years, I saw a single dust spot once.
Thus, the weather sealing seems to be o.k. in my experience.
Note that this is with the lens on A1. This camera in general does not collect dust. I even stopped closing the sensor on my A1 about 1.5 - 2 years ago, as this seems to be unnecessary.

I just shot my first event with this lens today. I rented it to give it a try. I'm downloading 76GB's of photos as we are speaking, excited to examine the results soon. First reaction - 35mm isn't wide enough ;-)

Yeah. I shot an event several weeks ago with the 35-150mm and it was the best event lens I have ever used. I will admit that I used the GM 24-70mm f2.8 II for a segment to get the 24mm; however, I still prefer the 35-150mm range, overall, with the subject isolating 100-150mm. There was a time when I would shoot a 24-70mm f2.8 on one body and a 70-200mm f2.8 on another, but I am no longer willing to punish myself in that way. . I am not a professional and volunteer my time to shoot charity events and black-tie fund-raisers.

My event setup will be the 35-150 for 90% of what I shoot and the new small Rokinon 24mm f1.8 on a second body in my sling bag. This setup will cover all my needs.

I mostly use the lens when travel, and shoot indiscriminately everything that looks even remotely interesting one way or another.
Like these two pictures from Valencia, Spain.

I wonder if something like a Nikkor Z 24-120/4 wouldn't work as well, at least for outdoor and good available light events? I wish Sony E-mount had something like that.

A lot of the events I shoot start in the early evening and move into night-time. I shoot in Manual mode (mostly with flash-fill) and constantly change the shutter speed and ISO to keep from a pure black background. F4 would not always allow enough ambient light without raising the ISO higher than I would like, although it would work most of the time. Of course, for group shots, one would need at least f4 to keep everyone in focus.

When I shot Nikon, I had the 24-120mm f4 and really liked the flexibility it offered. What I didn't like was the really mediocre IQ from that lens. I assume that the new "Z" version is much improved(?).

Yes, I think the aperture is a major selling point of the Tamron and if you're not utilizing it (either by shooting close to wide open or by stopping down for increased sharpness/reduced aberrations), then you might be better off with slightly lesser IQ of 28-200 for example...
