p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · East Coast Monarch Butterfly Migration, 2021

It has been very sad to lean of the very low number of Monarch Butterflies on the west coast the past few years. On Long Island we have been seeing more than usual all summer and my recent trip to the Lido preserve which I timed for the migration paid off with one of the best showings in years. It was a breezy day which is not ideal yet the only opportunity I had. I hope you enjoy this journey through the marsh with me and also my style of capturing these beautiful butterflies.

These are great Morris, I saw a couple on a recent trip to Mexico but wasn't fast enough to get any kind of picture before they flew off.

Yes, we are not seeing the same numbers of Monarchs as in prior years. I hope it is temporary.

Your shots are all excellent. I like the wing blur of the ones in flight mixed with the sharp images of the stationary ones in the last shot.

Wonderful and enjoyable images, Morris! I visited a few migration spots on the Central Coast of CA several times in the last 20 years or so. A few years ago, I went to El Rosario in Mexico. Although the number of monarchs there was impressive to me but I was told, it was on the decline as well….

Very nice shots. #2 for me. Yes the diminishing Monarch numbers are disturbing.

Thank you,

They can be super fast and the erratic flight is a challenge as well
