When it comes to bears, everyone wants to capture the action, interplay, intimacy and feeding of these magnificent creatures in their own pristine environment. I was fortunate recently to photograph all of that in Katmai, Alaska. But I often felt a personal connection to them through their willingness to allow me in their home. Facial expression and eye contact was very communicative and compelling. I was honored to have been accepted there. Here's what that looks like.
