There seems to be a run on waterfalls lately - so here's another one.

One of the most popular hikes in Glacier NP is the Trail of the Cedars/Trail to Avalanche Lake. Along the way, you pass this beautifully carved little gorge:

The colors are so rich from my Df that I actually had to desaturate this image.

Thanks and be well

Doug

Wonderful shot of an exceptional location. I was thinking a wider lens would be desired, then I read you cropped a bit. I'm so confused...

Brad:

Thanks!

Here is the uncropped, 2x3 image from the 55. Perhaps you prefer this one?

There are arguments for either version, I suppose.
Personally, I wanted to come in a bit closer to the waterfall and the water at its base. The only larger lens I had was the 105mm f2.5 AIS and that was too much. (maybe something like a 75-85 would have been perfect here?).

Which one to people prefer? Let me know your thoughts/CC

Cheers

Doug

I like the uncropped a little better, but I was really hoping for a little more of the upper falls at the top and a little more of the blue creek at the bottom. It appears from your vantage point that the upstream isn't visible, so that's a wash. I would still like to have seen more of the blue pool/creek. Looks like an interesting spot to wander around. Thanks.

Yes, there are limited accessible vantage points without going in for a swim!

I’m a fan of the crop in 1. It has a very cubist flavor which juxtaposes nicely with the color.

Beautiful spot. Looks like a wet and tricky location to shoot. I like the results.

Thanks, Gordon.

Yes, it was wet and slippery. No so bad if you are just climbing around with nothing to loose, but with an expensive camera and not the best gripping boots, a little disconcerting at times. As it was, I lost a lens cap there - thought it was on, but it wasn't. Oh well.

So which crop do you like best?

Cheers

Doug
