p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · saving my memories

I've been making photo books since 1985 to record a visual history of my family. As you can see in the image, book choices keep changing. I started by pasting little 3 x 5's on black stock and putting them in three ring binders. These days I use Shutterfly.

Like you, I had something similar until the 2018 California Wildfires. All I can say is you should consider an offsite (perhaps cloud based) storage. All my lifetime images are gone forever. Think about it.

Thanks you for the reminder Gary, and my condolences for your loss.. I have several friends that lost everything in the 2020 Lightning complex fire.

I have offsite backups of other important stuff (financial records, etc.) that doesn't require much storage, but all my images are backed up on optical media (CD, DVD, BD) in the same location as my computer and hard drives. A friend and I were discussing backup strategies for media (photos for me, videos for him) a few months ago, and he pointed out that I now have a second location where I could store backups. I need to make a second backup copy of all my images and send them to the second location. Its now on my TO DO list.

I might also suggest a SanDisk G-RAID array!
I just migrated to one and you have dual protection by mirroring to 2nd EHD..Enterprise class-Thunderbolt3 HD's

Dan,

I Had a Synology Array, worked great. I even had backups on DVD's as well. It didnt matter when the fire tore thru and destroyed my home and everything in it. I eventually found my melted Raid Array, TOTALLY unusable, The hard drives were actually melted. I'm certainly not telling anyone what they should do, but rather pointing out that even when you think you're safe, you may not be.

Oh believe me I understand that aspect Gary!
And I guess I am one of those that sez" That would never happen to me!"....

I had my ID stolen in 2019 and am VERY hesitant in "sharing@storing" my images on some other "off campus" equipment. Not diminishing this way of storage at all!
Probably way safer but I got "bit" pretty hard by the ID theft so I am a bit hesitant there.
Thanks!
Dan
