Looking on wiki the only difference I see is the buffer size has increased. It matches the VI and VII models, I am guessing they wanted to standardize on memory chips across models for manufacturing. 150 vs 233 jpegs.
There were a number of improvements of the VA over the V to make me sell my V and buy a VA.
To bad I can't remember them. :-)
I do have it written down.
The question is where I wrote it down.
I'll look.

Now that you have the VA have you noticed how much better it is or similar?
A very minor consideration: The original RX100 mk5 can have the "Openmemories" firmware tweaks installed on it. I believe the VA model can't - like the more recent Sony cameras it uses a different kind of firmware.
This does miscellaneous little things which might or might not be of value to you. For example it raises the artificial video recording time limit, so that now the camera is only limited by overheating and battery life.
It allows you to disable the annoying "running in NTSC/PAL mode" (or whatever) notification every time you turn the camera on, if you want the camera to be set so it records video in a different framerate to your home territory. For example, as someone with an RX100iii bought in Britain, my camera defaults to PAL and records video at 25 or 50 fps. But I may wish to record at 24, 30 or 60 fps. I can enable this only by switching to NTSC mode. Once I have switched to NTSC mode, every time the camera is turned on it shows an annoying popup message to inform me that it is in NTSC mode. The app makes this go away with a toggle-able option in the menu. People who own an American copy of the camera have the reverse issue: they get the popup nuisance if they switch the camera to record at 50 or 25 fps. Either way, the firmware tweak helps.
I'm not 100% this is all correct, take it with a pinch of salt, but I install the tweak on every compatible Sony camera I use and am sometimes quite glad it's there. It might cause me to consider buying the V instead of the VA, if I were to be in the market for either.
VA improvements over V are mostly usability, such as better auto-ISO control and my menu. These make it a better camera, but I doubt VA is worth upgrading from V.
VA is vastly superior compared to IV and older RX100 series cameras. For a photographer who wants a bright lens and does mot mind lack of tele reach, it is still the best choice in RX100 series. VA is fast and responsive and the auto focus is almost the same class with A9.
I use my RX100 VA still occasionally, although iPhone and Fuji X100F occupy the same slot in my photography. Compared to iPhone VA pictures have much more pleasing and natural look, although technically computational photography is surprisingly good - I just do not like the plastic look on that iPhone pictures often have.
the firmware tweaks is actually very interesting, i would have never known about that, thanks!
Reading though a lot of articles and videos about the two, definitely went down a rabbit hole of spec comparisons but one thing that I could not find was user experience with the 2.
