Anyone try all 3 and come to a conclusion for Landscape photography use for sharp to the corners, lens flare, sun stars, and nice color rendering

Landscape Images of any of the 3 would also be most helpful.

Sig best rendering, Tamron best colors and sharpness, Sony best af and size. All have good flare control.

The Zony 35mm f2.8 has a nice rendering but too much vignette, and is over-priced for what you get.
The Tamron 35mm f2.8 was a better option in my view, though a bit larger lens.

The Tamron 35mm F2.8 has a nice rendering for landscape work. However the focus is noisy and slow. But landscapes move slowly

The Zeiss Batis 40mm F2 is very nice for landscape work and what I settled on after passing the Tarmon 35mm F2.8 to a friend. I picked up a nice Zeiss Batis 40mm F2 from KEH.com with a warranty.

I haven't tried the Sigma. I am down to 4 - 35's right now and keep changing my mind about which to keep. I have avoided buying another one for a while.

One weakness of the Tamron is the color cast around the edges. You can read the thread on here about using filters to reduce that. The Sigma doesn't seem to have the corner sharpness of the Tamron, but it may well have nicer rendering if some out-of-focus factors in to your landscapes. I am pretty happy with their 45 for my landscapes. The Tamron does have quite good rendering too.

I must have tried a very poor copy of the F2.8 ZA.

I haven't tried Tamaron, but I started with Samyang 35/2.8 then went to Zony 35/2.8 and recently switched over to Sigma 35/2. I don't shoot much landscape, but for environmental portraits and general purpose day to day photography, I really like the Sigma. Rendering is nicer than both f/2.8 lenses and build quality is top notch. It is a very nice lens.

I’m glad you mentioned the Samyang 35/2.8 because there doesn’t seem to be much love for it in this forum.
I avoided it for a couple of years, then bought one last year as a cheap 35 street lens (for size convenience).
I was shocked how good it is in comparison to the two previous Zony 35/2.8 lenses I owned.
Definitely worth a look if anyone is in the market for a cheap/compact 35.

I had all three. They are all good for landscape, so I would recommend the Tamron because it is by far the best value and arguably the sharpest of the bunch.

The Tamron is huge in comparison to comparable models:

Left: Tamron Middle: Zony Right: Samyang
67mm filter thread vs 49mm on comparable models.

Short of the CV 35/2 APO, the Tamron is the sharpest 35mm lens I've tried. While it is larger than the FE 35/2.8 ZA and Samyang 35/2.8, it's sharper to the corners (at least compared to my FE 35/2.8 ZA and the 4 or 5 Samyang 35/2.8's I've tried.)

Note that my copy of the Tamron 35/2.8 is sensitive to UV and will show some magenta shading in the corners in outdoor shooting (as does the CV 35/2 AL.) A Zeiss UV filter or Kenko Zeta L41 UV filter (both with hard cutoffs around 410nm) takes care of it.

The OP didn't mention size as one of his main criteria, and while it's not teensy, it isn't huge either.

Hi Tim,
Yeah I know the OP didn’t mention size. That’s why I posted the size comparison in case others were interested to see the difference.

I haven’t tested the Tamron, so I can’t comment about it’s optical performance vs comparable models.
I own a perfect copy of the Samyang 35/2.8 and am really happy with it.

Sounds good....I never tied so many copies of a lens than the Samyang 35/2.8. In the end, I couldn't get a well centered copy. Glad you were able to, as it seemed like a good lens from a size/performance perspective.

Lol, yeah, I’ve seen plenty of people complaining about Samyang decentred copies.
I’m the lucky one 😉

We had two Samyang 2.8/35's that were awesome the first go.

Love those little things.

I notice that the Tamron 35 F2.8 is only prime in the 26 to 49 mm range with a "Good" rating in the center at f/16 at sonyalpha.blog. And one of only two with an "Outstanding" at f/8. Several normal zooms have "Good" ratings for both center and corners at 35mm f/16 but no "Outstanding" at f/8.

Owning many Contax C/Y prime lenses which are smalll (tiny & lite)

Size does matter, but @ 7.4 oz / 210 g it's a feather, I find the point of size being mute
Additionally @ $199 its a no brainer.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1512043-REG/tamron_f035_35mm_f_2_8_di_iii.html/specs

The one negative I have as tsdevine pointed out it is, it requires a Zeiss UV filter or Kenko Zeta L41 UV filter, as it's sensitive to UV and will show some magenta shading in the corners in outdoor shooting.

Fine if you use magnetic filters, not very good if you dont.

Equally important is the color and micro contrast rendering. Tamron & Sony color science look pretty good in the 35's discussed, I put Sigma in 3rd, as I do own a contemporary lens Cant speak for Samyang, no experience, as it wasn't even in the discussion. Maybe I should also take a look at it.

For me Zeiss & Voigtlander are at the top when it comes to color and micro contrast rendering, I own both, so I feel confident making that statement.

That's why when I look at a lens other than Zeiss or Voigtlander I would like to get as close as I can to their color and micro rendering. Additionally sharp at 5/6 and beyond for landscape at infinity. Other contributing factors are sunstars, flare and ghosting.

I got mine preowned from a forum member here, IQ is pretty good.
Love travelling with that little gem and those times if I don't feel like bringing FE35/1.8.

From PReeve's review the cons/pros stood out a little in that in the "cons" column there's among a few others "mf" as well as "af". Non-linear mf that sometimes skips a bit and jumps, in addition to the normal slight lag and an af that is on the slow and hunty side and not entirely internal.

Its close focus ability looks nice and I'm sure it's rather portable and its price is second to very few 35mm lenses ..but that focus. Is it something that people can definitely get used to then?

The 7R2+35/2.8 is a tiny, powerful, affordable combo.
A6300+20/2.8 is even smaller again, much smaller, cheaper again but noticeably less IQ.

The Samyang 35/2.8, just beautiful.

We are talking landscapes here. The first prime I bought was a Sony DT 35mm F1.8 SAM--I am very used to slow, noisy DC motors. The Tamron 35mm F2.8 OSD focuses just like the Zeiss 32mm F1.8 Touit for example. Rather better than the SAM lens. The little Samyang AF primes do focus much more nicely, and they are far from the best.

The manual focus-by-wire on the OSD primes doesn't impress, but they are useable. They all extend to focus inside a fixed outer barrel with the 67mm filter threads. If you use a filter they essentially become internal focus. i don't see Tamron suggesting a filter for sealing, but that seems like a good idea to me.

FWIW, Marc Alhadeff seems to derive his sonyalphablog sharpness ratings by examining images of his bookcase taken at close range. OP was inquiring about use of the lenses for (possibly distant) landscapes. Perhaps Fred's tests would be more meaningful in that context.
