@BastianK via phillipreeve.net, just posted an extensive review on the new TTARTISAN 90mm f/1.25 M-mount.

Conclusion:

"A 90mm f/1.25 with its 72mm entrance pupil is situated on the edge of what can be realised for M-mount, therefore I was expecting some optical compromises and indeed there are: flare resistance leaves something to be desired as does the performance near the minimum focus distance as well as at infinity. The latter are not that bothersome for portrait photography, but the ninja star aperture blades do bother me a bit here and those using an M-mount camera with liveview may be bothered by focus shift, too.

Despite this I am pretty sure the TTArtisan 90mm f/1.25 will prove to be a popular lens just like the TTArtisan 50mm f/0.95 before. The combination of unique specs and fair price makes it appealing to many potential buyers, I could even see some trusty Leica users getting one of these lenses for the fun of having a large aperture lens, but without having to invest 5 figures for one of Leica’s offerings."

I vaguely remember the 50 0.95 having pretty good focus breathing performance (was testing for video). If this 90 has decent breathing performance I might try it.

It's an interesting lens. I think I would rather hunt down an Olympus OM 90/2 or 100/2 at those prices for e-mount fun. I know the OM is slower by ~1.5 stops but you get goodness in everything else.

I like what TTArtisan are doing, but I always feel that the voigtlanders for a bit more money are generally a better bet and just as well built

An interesting lens and I can see why some would like that really fast aperture, but I am in the opposite extreme for size vs. aperture actualluy preferring the 90 f/2.4 summarit over the 90 cron APO because of the smaller size of the summarit.

Next up (maybe): CV 90/1.5 similar to the excellent 75/1.5. For something around $1K, too.

+1. Yes, CV is hard to beat at this point in its price vs. quality ratio with M-lenses. It must give Leica headaches.

but not gonna say more )

For MF lens, Voigtlander is my current fav (that used to be Zeiss ), good optics, well made, reasonable price.

Would you consider having it as your primary lens (while owning other cameras too)? I’m trying to decide between it and the 50mm F1.4. The 50mm makes a ton more sense for a general purpose lens but I do love the dreamlike aspect of the .95 (and also of the 90mm). Maybe I should get the 50mm F1.4 and the 90 together.

Definitely the f/0.95 would not be my primary 50mm lens. I consider it to be a specialized lens and mostly use it on the M9 because of its sensor restrictive high ISO.

Always quality reviews by Bastian. Disappointing to see ninja star bokeh on such a bokeh centric and contemporary lens.

From the samples, the colors looks a bit blocky/no well differentiated and yellow-ish, but he also processes with slight “filmic” vibes so hard to know. I do wonder how that fine tonal separation and micro contrast is—never shot this TTArtisan. Have been disappointed by 7a and Samy and some other cheaper brands. Any info/thoughts on TT as far as tonal resolution and microcontrast and color palate?

Not going into politics here but just looking at technical performance of the only Chinese lens I own which is the TTArtisan 11/2.8 fisheye M-mount lens. It is an excellent performer already wide open and very well built. I also have the Canon 8-15/4 L EF fisheye lens - one stop slower and not better image quality wise at 11 mm FL.

Yes, that makes total sense and I hope it happens. The other obvious lens would be a 28 f/2 APO Lanthar in both E and M, but that may be trickier to build as the 35 f/2 APO Lanthar got noticeably bigger than the 50 f/2 APO Lanthar. The M mount 75 f/1.5 Nokton is a lovely lens and works wonderfully on E mount with an adapter, but it doesn't seem that Voigtlander is going to bring that lens to E mount, so I don't think a 90 f/1.5 Nokton if they make one (which I don't think they would actually do) would come to E mount either.

Yes, and would likely be about a quarter to a fifth of the price when purchased new. The Voigtlanders ought to be able to compete well.
