Surprisingly, I got better results with the 2x and 1.4x than base 500mm. Not sure if that was due to the AF getting more detail to lock on to with a bigger target, or if the setups just gave me more opportunities being the little guy would be in and out of range of the 500mm quite a bit.

Surprisingly, the focal length seems to have very little hindrance in terms of AF. The only issue I feel matters now is, whether you are capable of finding the subject at that focal length in the EVF. But, I'll be blunt... there's no way this shot happens with one of my DSLRs at that focal length.
