While shooting here I had the opportunity to shoot with Mark Smith, of YouTube wildlife/Sony photography fame, many days. He really is a great guy, I encourage you to checkout his videos.
Tim, mighty impressive images and what a brave heron for sure! Not only the capturing part but the presentation of those images also superb. I noticed that the exif data on some images had that “800mm” as the FL. What lens did you use for those? Indeed you can get a lot, I mean a lot of images using the electronic shutter at high speed .
Super set Tim. Mark recently switched to Sony having previously loved Nikon gear. I've chatted with him online occasionally, a super guy and very talented.

Thanks Joshua. The 800 is the Canon 800 5.6, I adapt that with the Sigma mc-11. Tracking suffers greatly but for slow or stationary subjects it can't be beat.
Beautiful photos ... do eagles and herons ever fight for food and such? Wonder who'd win. Eagles are MMA fighters, but a heron could do some sumo style move and just sit on the eagle and subdue it.
Excellent set, Tim! Liked and enjoyed all the images, 4 and 8 are off the chart in IMO. If it's me, I would move #4 to the top of this deck, that image is National geographic cover type! Thanks for sharing, YGMV.

Yes they fight all the time, well kind of. The eagles swoop down and at the last minute the herons drop the fish and the eagles steal it. Sometimes a heron will try to fly away but the eagles give chase and the herons drop the fish in flight. Sometimes the eagles grab the fish out of the air other times out of the water unless it swims away. Thanks!
Tim, that is a great set, I also was there for two days and had allot activity, lots of fun, I also shot with Mark the days I was there. To bad we didn't meet, maybe we will cross paths sometime soon.

Very heavy? No, but it isn't light either. I hand hold it regularly or use a monopod. I have been shooting with that lens for well over 10 years, it's an incredible lens once you master it. Most don't master it.
