TTartisan released this lens last month. Big, beautiful and heavy. A bit impractical for rangefinder bodies but given the focal length and aperture it's not too surprising and it comes with a screw-in tripod thread for those longer sessions. Not a crazy amount of info out there but the samples look quite promising. There's four sets of achromatic doublets and checking Weibo reviews there's not more CA from F1.4 forwards. There's some spherical aberration, especially closeup, but sharpness and contrast look fantastic. Unlike the 50mm F0.95 which probably traded in too much to hit that aperture, this one seems to strike a great middle ground between specs and performance especially for the price.

I'm quite interested. Has anyone gotten their hands on it yet? Some samples, not shot by me so do check out the respective authors if you are interested in their work. I take no credit:

Also curious to see more real-world photos taken with this lens. The first released photos on the dpp site were pretty poor IMO - the ones posted here look much better. FL in combination with lens speed will be challenging to use with Leica rangefinder patch - probably the external EVF is a must here to ensure correct focus at f/1.25. I am managing to get the focus right with my CV 75/1.5 wide open using my rangefinder, but I sometimes need 2-3 attempts to nail it. Must be even harder then with such 90/1.25. Nevertheless, great that TTArtisan further widened the envelope with such lens to an affordable price!

Yeah I'll post more once I come across them. Shame there's not too much coverage yet as I really do think it's quite a special rendering, so I'll give it some more visibility. Right now I'm testdriving a Fuji and only own the Sigma FP as a full frame camera which I'm not really a big fan and don't want to grab an adapter for, so I haven't bitten the bullet yet. But yeah, on an M-body I wouldn't want to use it without the EVF.

I like what I see so far from the TTArtisan 90/1.25. It's still a pre-order in the US. Very tempting and it should provide similar results for the Leica M and other mirrorless systems.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1641209-REG/ttartisan_a30b_90mm_f_1_25_lens_for.html

I may grab one for review but I'm sure Bastian will beat me to it.

Could you crosspost it to the Sony forum? I'm under 500 posts.

I have been watching this as well, and agree with retrofocus--initial samples looked awful. Might give this a whirl, but no real hurry. More of a fun special use lens.

And a 77mm filter size for an M-mount lens?

Faster and cheaper than this, but almost the same weight.... Probably not as good (well pretty sure it's safe to say)...but....

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1527944-REG/leica_11678_summilux_m_90mm_f_1_5_asph.html/specs?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gclid=Cj0KCQjwh_eFBhDZARIsALHjIKdC1kUW5guBJS1ygUVHIuStuIlBw-ppFnjVIJKYB73IMG_M5DrYPpIaAikmEALw_wcB

In other threads it would be argued that this lens is fake, as a 77mm thread would be the dead giveaway...

There is likely another 90mm M-mount lens (F1.5) coming from Zhongyi as well

Link: http://stkb.co.jp/info/?p=17222

Weight and size appears to be the same.

Oh very very interesting. In these samples the Speedmaster definitely seems sharper although I believe they are testing the TTArtisan at F1.25 and the Mitakon at F1.5 which of course would skew the result a bit.

Very interesting. Thanks for the link. I'm actually liking the rendering from the TTArtisan 90/1.25.

Agreed. But its good to know that both lenses have sufficient level of resolving power wide open (at portrait distance) on a 24mp camera.

I find the rendering of the TTartisan to my liking as well. The framing is slightly different in the Zhongyi and TTartisan comparison images but the F1.25 aperture seems to make the background rendering very slightly smoother.

But I question the rationality behind the purchase of this lens for an E mount user. I think the GM rendering is smoother wide open and its actually lighter!

I agree. The TTA 90/1.25 would yield slightly more 'blur' but I don't think it can match the 85 GM's smooth rendering at transition zone. They really made it to challenge the Leica 90/1.5 and it's indeed a bargain in comparison. However, I don't think I would be using such heavy lens on my Leica M but I may change my mind.

I know a lot of Sony shooters have been asking for a 85/1.4 GM Mark II, but I think the current version is very well balanced in terms of resolution and rendering. If Sony tries to correct it further, it may lose its mojo. It's one of my favorite lenses and I still own it.

Perhaps they could add a modern linear or dual linear motor system and keep the same optical design but I'm not sure it's even possible. I'd say don't touch what works!

Well price is a factor, it's about half the cost of the GM. It's also more universal, being able to be adapter to any system if you switch/add, including great coverage on medium format. Practical considerations aside the lens renders pretty ethereal which can be a great look, and you can stop down for a more 'standard' portrait look. Not to discount the GM or anything, I love that lens! It has fantastic rendering.

I like it. Same weight as my Rokinon 85 1.2 EF tho. I wonder if there is similar coverage and performance on the GFX. I've been looking for a slightly smaller alternative with similar look but a manual aperture control, so maybe this will work? Their 50 0.95 was decent but poor resolution and the bokeh was lol. This one looks good.
