Hi, we do love to hear any opinion, both positive or negative, but we also like to improve our offer, always improve.

Regarding the free to download Cobalt Colours, we are open to any feedback with samples to try to improve it as well if possible in the limit of the current technology.

below is a sample between a SPECTRAL calibrated shot (basically what you can really see on that picture, the perfect colours and the perfect WB) and our cobalt colours with a good (open to improvements) white balance point.
As you can see there is a boost on saturation, and some corrections on the red side to give a richer rendition.

below is a sample between a Cobalt Neutral (this is calibrated so basically it should be a reference) and our Colour.
As you can see, the second is just more pleasant and still open to editing, for your photos.

Update: The image below is produced via a profile made using DCamProf using the camera spectral sensitivity data from the A7RII. Not sure were you got your SSF's from but this version is a real SPECTRAL calibrated shot with WB and looks good.

We worked to be able to offer a "nice to see" profile and a perfect starting point for skin tones , lighter and darker as well. This is still based on our extended gamut profiles.

It's a step in the right direction. This is a good combination : a boost in contrast and saturation, with the exception of the caucasian skin tones enlightened and desaturated a little bit, and the dark skin tone patch saturated a little bit. I agree with the criticism, it can be oversaturated in the reds, but this is manageable. I think that the cobalt standard was way too desaturated in the reds, a very strong gamut compression maybe ? This one can have opposite problem, but it's pleasing. To be honnest, ti's the first cobalt profile that I really like.

I try to answer on a technical level. Pretending to ignore that an account created on March 15 and with 5 posts, all related to accusations against us, is not a clone.

The Cobalt Colours modular profile is a color grading profile, this means that it involves arbitrary changes to the color to arrive at a pleasing result, which has nothing to do with "precise".
The result may or may not be liked, it depends on personal preferences.

The rare situations in which some profiles cause clipping are foreseen and a specific tool is provided to solve them:

On the comparison between a profile obtained from a 24 notch color checker, taken in uncontrolled conditions, compared to a Specter class profile, which can count on a calculation base of about 3000 patches, many of which are impossible to replicate with pigments or paints ... there would not even be to answer for the obviousness of things.

Unfortunately, I didn’t think of ordering through paypal, otherwise I would have used it, since I don’t use any profile, and it would be honest to return the money to me. As I said, there are still good working profiles, R5, but my profiles are still better. And I wanted the color of the other cameras...

You think too highly of yourself and the "quality" of your product if you think that there should be no dissatisfied people, but only a few people and their clones.) Considering the level of your product, I'm sure that the majority of experienced photographers are dissatisfied. It's just that not everyone is ready to openly enter into disputes, like me.

BTW I updated my post. I used a profile made by DCamProf using the camera spectral sensitivity data from the A7RII and Adobe's 3x3 DNG matrix for WB, with a calculation based on about 2500 patches. I have just had a PM from another profile maker who developing profiles using synthetic SSF's as a base for their film Fuji and Kodak emulations and they look very good.

What is specter profile?

They talk a lot of 'Mumbo Jumbo' to cover the obvious failings in the product. There is also a level of arrogance in the replies from these people that I do not like, this prompted me to post especially given the product is premium priced yet seems to be a work in progress.

I have asked them to PM you. They used to be very big with their film emulations years ago but left the market, they are now about to come back with new technology and products. Interestingly they have a very similar business model to Cobalt with an emphasis on spectral data, they even have a lab to make these spectral measurements!

Well, to get the discussion at least a bit back on track, I can say I also like the new "bonus" profile.
Full disclosure though, I'm not a big time Cobalt user, but this preset seems to produce nice skintones right out of the box (I tried it only on a couple of quick portraits

I tried the free profile - I must admit that it already seems like a job well done. Like the Canon R5 profiles. I think that the guys still found the right direction and are working on the bugs. Red quickly clips, and this is not quite the color that I love and expected, but this can already be used. This is encouraging, and there is hope for a gradual fix for all profiles.

I have had a very interesting day making spectral profiles for Sony & Canon cameras, thanks Raamiel for the inspiration. BTW I am not your enemy and I have no idea who R.Vic is.

I now have some sets of spectral profiles for all Sony E-Mount and all Canon RF mount cameras that I would appreciate feedback on. I will start a new thread in the Canon and Sony forums with a download link. They are very big 10MB each to accommodate the large LUT's needed for a smooth profile with so many data points. There will also be dedicated profiles for various lighting conditions as well.

Lets see how they compare with your unreleased Specter profile prototypes Raamiel.
