This weekend (long weekend in Canada - Queens Birthday) I went to Jasper National Park.

We arrived and there was a 4 year old male grizzly right outside our door. My beloved had to spot me as I brought the luggage in. The pictures were not great because of the low light. I was disappointed but it was our 29th anniversary so did not think it was wise to go chase bears over the weekend.

The next day I saw the bear family - mom and 2 butter ball cubs - go across a rise. Perfect picture but I was in a hurry to pick my beloved up from the spa.

The next day we went golfing and there were 3 grizzly bear delays - again I was a little disappointed.

So last night, we came home and Laurel said there is a family in the grass outside our cabin. Here are some fun shots of the grizzlies from about 30' out my balcony (and I might have followed them a bit

). Eventually the wildlife people came and chased them off, but not before 1600 pictures

Amazingly beautiful photographs. The coloring of the bears and surroundings is gorgeous ! These are all really special but #4 is my pick.

morris: Glad you like 5. They are so huggy and clingy and then the hormones kick in - males only come near females once a year (and kill all little ones and males they can kill) and females only with babies. But boy are the females good mothers - tolerant and protective. Glad you like them. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scottt

Wow those bears look great. Cubs are beautiful. I especially like image #2. I have always wanted to visit Jasper and your shots have convinced me to do it one day. Thank you for posting these, made my morning.

The wildlife control people came by 2 or 3 times a day while I was in Jasper. Chasing the bears into the bush at midnight and then again in the morning. They said there were 11 bears in the immediate area. 3 sets of mom and cubs and 2 individuals. End of may is a great time to visit. But June is too. Unfortunately you cannot visit until we open back up for international visitors - possibly in the fall.

Great set of images! Jasper is one of my favourite parks. Much prefer it to Banff, even though Banff is closer (I live in Calgary). Always see interesting wildlife on each trip there and of course the elk rut there is awesome. Good work on these pictures.

Impressive and lovely images at the same time, Scott! I really enjoy all of them but #5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 do stand out.

CW100: Yup - moma bears are dangerous. But this bear seems to follow the bring the babies near humans trick to avoid large males killing her little ones -- strategy. Thus she is familiar with human. Thanks for your concern.
