nice, Bob. you may want to consider reducing the power of the flash a tad.

Thanks kdacharya
This was taken with a Lidar trap on a D500 set to ISO Lo1 (about ISO of 50) using 5 flashes set to 1/64 power. Shutter speed was 1/250 sec. To provide some space between the flash and the bird I have a better beamer on each flash.

The raw image is quite dark. I feel I need to add a high speed shutter which will provide a lot more flexibility for lighting the bird and keeping the background black. I will than add two flashes to light the tree behind the trap.

This is my venture into high speed photography and I hve a lot to learn. However I am capturing images that would be very difficult to get using regular flash methods - I think.

The second is my pick Bob. Looks like you have made great strides with this method

Normally, you need more reach in regular bird photography. Because of the trap, It seems that you need less here. Still, I like the contrast between wing blur and sharp head of the cardinal in #2. Good job, Bob!

Thanks Morris - II think two brands of flash are causing double exposure. Will try just using one brand on net outing to light the bird and the other brand to light the background.

Could be a trigger timing issue related to pre flash.

Excellent and on target comment Morris. One of the flashes had AF on. Dealing with cryptic camera menues is one headache. Dealing with obtuse flash menues screws with your mind in three dimensions.
