I wanted to share the last batch of photos from the incredible super bloom we experienced at Folsom lake. Over the three or so weeks I visited and photographed, we had one evening with a clearing storm. I wished I'd arrived at the location a bit earlier to scout out compositions. I know this problem is not unique to me - rushing around to find compositions when the light is going off but it does make me shake my head wryly when I look back upon the experience.

One more tidbit before I post. My wife is Vietnamese and she posted these on her FB account. Several of her friends commented that they felt the pictures were romantically sad. This is totally not the vibe I was going for with these pictures and I wonder if it's a cultural thing and that the colour purple triggers different emotions in different cultures. It was really interesting for me to hear that and think about it.

Absolutely great work. Really like the colors; the photos seem more dreamy to me rather than sad.

Folsom Lake is on my bucket list of scouting locations (it's about 1 1/2 hours from me), if you have any advice/tips on areas to check out, I would appreciate it.

I would ask that if you are going to post my photos in your facebook feed that you please attribute the photos to me and provide a link to my photography, such as Instagram or Flickr or my personal website. Similarly with the photos of other photographers in your stream you should attribute the photos and provide a link to their source.

Yes it is a very nice place. Spectacular place when blooming that it did. The bloom is now well and truly over.

Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated. Folsom is a nice place to photograph but not sure it's worth a 1.5 hour drive in summer. In Spring, with wildflowers it can be spectacular. In fall, when the cottonwoods and willows show some colour, it can be beautiful. In winter, it's lovely and green. I don't have a blog but I'm thinking of putting together a guide for photographers. If I do, I'll send it your way.

Great photos of an uncommon phenomenon. These look peaceful to me, not sad, so maybe the interpretation is a cultural indicator.

Very nice work. I wished for more contrast, but given the light, I know that was hard. The last one has the color and contrast that I prefer, but these are all really cool. Well done!
