It has been over 2 years since I have been out west, and hot dog did I miss the night skies. There is a new level of magic whenever I am out there, and the last time I was in Zion was long before I was into photography or anything to do with astronomy for that matter.

Coming back to Zion for the first time in 10 years felt like an entirely new place for me. I had no idea I was in for a real treat. The Milky Way was so vibrant and bright, I could actually navigate the ground I was standing on with just starlight below. I know Zion is not the darkest skies UT has to offer, but coming from the East Coast this is still on another level for me.

I used my Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z 14-24 f/2.8 S to take this. I stacked 5 shots. 3 for the sky on my tracker @ f/2.8, 2 minutes, ISO 1600, 2 for the foreground taken just before untracked @ f/2.8, 4 minutes, ISO 3200.

Very nice! I can't wait to use my tracker this year. Quick question. Why didnt you use a longer time for tracking?

Thank you and great question. The reason being was time. My friend had to work remote that day from Vegas, so that meant descending the hike and then driving 2.5 hours back from Zion so he can sign in by 8 AM EST. I would have loved to stay and shoot more, but this shot and a tracked Milky Way Pano at 50mm was all I could budget time for.

Thanks for that. Still got some great details. I just picked up a tracker a month ago and will probably use it is 2 weeks time I have a place in mind for it. And thanks for answering my question. Definitely gonna vote for it.

Thanks my friend, I appreciate the vote! You are going to love tracking. You are going to get far more details and colors in your shots, prepare to go further into the rabbit hole!
