I've used a Leofoto QD strap on my RRS TFC-14 Mk2 for quite some time now and and it's been very reliable, no problems at all.

yeah... I'm not a fan of that setup. I'd feel much more at ease securing to the QD to the bracket instead of QD to clamp to bracket. less things to worry about failing or having accidents. That's me.

For clarity, you're using this type strap with the clamp to leg - Leofoto Push Button Quick Detach Modular Tripod Strap 32LS and it doesn't pull the leg open?

its for mounts that do not have the QD available. i've used it for a few years with no issues. in the pic there are the end bolts i can slide it to and tighten it. i have separate non QD (general design) plates for borrowed optics or cameras that i use it with too. so far works as required. safety studs at both ends.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

I have been using the RRS version of this for a couple of years now. One way to avoid the leg being pulled open is to install the leg collar on the leg opposite from the QD attachment point in the tripod apex. Install the leg collar so that the QD socket faces inwards. That way, you attach the strap by threading it between the other two legs and when it’s slung over your shoulder, the strap is pulling the leg into the closed position. If this isn’t clear, I can attach a photo tomorrow.

I have QDs on a couple of slings, not all of them. I don't see any particular reason to go away from the military design QD. I'm still pondering the "need" for the second QD when used as a camera strap. As opposed to swapping to two point to one point or back as a rifle sling. I guess a clamp might be needed of the lens foot or L bracket, etc., didn't have a QD socket. That would make me a little nervous but that's why folks use an added security strap at times.

They also use that design for the ridiculously expensive tripod strap - Leofoto Push Button Quick Detach Modular Tripod Strap 32LS.

That said, I wouldn't mind giving it a try if the price was a little cheaper. The other issue I have with that strap is the attached leg being spread apart. Yeah, you could tighten the leg but that's could be a constant battle. I question the design there.

Hmm I hardly see the point of a Tripod Strap (i bought one once and never used it). Every tripod comes with a bag that is essentially the same thing, weighs very little, protects the tripod better and takes just a few seconds longer to access but also has room to carry spare parts/hex tool.

I bought this strap & clamp over a year ago so the current product may be a bit different. To answer your question - no I've had no problems at all, it just works. The strap is also very amenable to being folded inside the legs so you can easily get the tripod into a small waterproof scabbard.

You should rotate the the clamp so the port is lined up between the other two legs that line up with the upper port on the apex Pin the lower strap pin then close the 2 legs. as they are on top no movement should occur.

As one who carries my tripod with it's travel bag, I can say... yeah, it's an annoyance. And why I made a makeshift tripod strap using my Peak Design strap. That's me

Yeah, that's pretty much what I did with my makeshift strap. Just needed to make the tether longer so the strap can swivel.

everyone has options and then makes a choice.

Thanks for the info. I "may" consider one of those at a later date.

Thanks.

Damn, how did I miss that? I love B&H. Oh well, I guess I overspent $6 on the deal. Now it will be interesting to see how long it takes for me to have complete confidence in the QD system. Anything to reduce size, weight & complexity...

I have the Magpul MS4 sling strap. No worries there. I have it attached to the RRS modular L-Bracket on D850 + 70-200 F2.8 E lens. No worries about it detaching.

No worries; this QD design is borrowed from the military and I've being using the Leofoto version on my travel tripods for over a year with no mishaps.

one should consider what it was originally designed for and i believe the (Magpul) connector exceeds 500lb. that essentially means body parts will move first.

one always check the connections before going out to play.
