I will adjust other people's keywords to fit my application, so it should be universal, for the most part. I am just curios to see where others see traction in their markets

That might be like shooting a gun into space. You can sign up for tools that allow you to see how many people search for specific terms.

SEO 101. For us, most bookings have come from venue specific searches. Couple sees us on the first (or 2nd) page and clicks through to wedding(s) we've shot at the venue. So that search result would look like ...

Powel Crosley Estate Wedding (photographer)
Laurel Oak Country Club Wedding (photographer)
Groove Ballroom Wedding (photographer)

Those individual search results would allow them to click through to an optimized page for that specific venue.

Less successful for us is city searches ...

Sarasota Florida Wedding Photographer
Sarasota Wedding Photographer

The bigger the city (or resort destination) the greater the competition and the harder it is the land on page one. Smaller towns are easier to compete in for SEO, in a city wide keywood search "New York Wedding Photographer."

That's organic search results. I've never paid for Google Ads, but I'm assuming like most things you have to game it and there's probably a YouTube video or some online guide to get the best out of your marketing dollar.

I used Adwords very extensively for several years but eventually dropped it because it no longer worked well. I optimised a large number of pages for specific venues and these used to work for both advertising and organic.

However nowadays it is almost impossible to even get an adword approved by Google unless the keywords are very wide. If you simply keyword in the adword for the venue name and location and include the words wedding and photographer or photographers or photography (yes they are different!) more often than not Google will not approve it - they report that there are not enough searches to be allowed to run such an ad. Once upon a time there were enough searches but chances are that now searches will have reduced because of clients using Facebook Instagram etc instead of Google search.

If you have the venue plus location plus wedding / weddings but not photog***** the clicks shoot up but are no way cost effective; you can see this e.g. if you use Statcounter in real time and have Statcounter on every page (yes you can add that in Squarespace). Likewise if you miss wedding / weddings and use an iteration of photog*****

Organic still works up to a point if you have a large number of different individual pages optimised. But even then Google changes the criteria frequently and you have an almost fulltime job rewriting or paying through the nose for a specialist. For example for some time Google has put much more emphasis on page speed; this means that if you have more than a handful of images per page then each of these will be "Your Page Is Not Mobile Friendly" and be lower in the results on a clients mobile even though the page is mobile friendly.

Other photographers have been instead using Instagram with decent results (not advertising necessarily) for the time being - but with A LOT of maintenance. Likewise Facebook still - generally if you include special offers in adverts.

Chances are that unless you have a very large number of different pages you can optimise for Google search you're going no-where. Back to developing relations with wedding coordinators at venue :- )

All true. The rules seem to change every 6 months. It's a real job keeping a collection of pages fresh & optimized. I always viewed it like a store keeper arranging the shelves to keep things neat & tidy. It's a forced Feng Shui.

I've read several articles about SEO keywords and all of them state that it's essential to use keyword research tools to analyze the market. You should use keywords in the title, url, page copy, meta tags, anchor texts, etc. Keyword relevance is one of the most important things for SEO now.

You're correct, this is coming from a SVP of Technology @ a very large Digital Advertising Agency.

Why would you actually adjust some other people's words for your product? I mean, yeah, that's the easiest way to do it, but why don't you try to do it all by yourself? I think it would be much more efficient. Considering how search engine optimization is working nowadays, using other combinations might be more efficient only in the short term. But if you truly want your product to be on top for a longer time, you should do it yourself and pay extra attention to google search api. Trust me, and this will help you pretty much.

Make sure you know what you're doing on Google Ads. I was killing it on there before the pandemic. Would spend about $500 per month and book around $30-$40,000 in work. I turned off my ads when the pandemic hit. When i turned them back on in mid-2021 I spent over $1,000 in 5 weeks and didn't get a single phone call or email. A friend of mine that handles online advertising for a company says that Google has made a lot of changes that increase ad spend but decrease quality. Can be tricky to set up a truly successful ad if you're not careful.
