p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sandpiper at 1200mm

went shooting for an hour before sunset, not much activity but a few shorebirds. picked up something a bit more challenging : sandpipers. I had never been able to come up with quality sandpiper in flight shots before, they are only 4" and fly very erratically , the A1 is the first camera to have both the resolution and the AF / speed to do this stuff not to mention the optics that can deliver tack sharp frames even with the 2X TC at 1200mm handheld on a 50 mega pixel sensor. came home with 1500 frames, 95% plus tack sharp. almost hard to believe you can even see a bit of mud on the bill.

A1 600GM + 2X (1200mm) ISO-2000 f/8 1/4000 sec handheld processed with C1P.

Oh wow! What an amazing, beautiful shot! Did you use Bird EyeAF to acquire focus?

In additional to the picture quality, I truly admire anyone's skill to even put such a small/fast bird in the viewfinder at 1200mm!

Awesome! I'm curious to know how much (if at all) this was cropped?

Amazing job acquiring and tracking the bird at 1200mm!
Yes, the A1+600/4+2XTC is an amazing combination.

Great shot and not easy with the 2x.
Was this a single sandpiper flying or this was a crop from a flock sandpipers?

thanks

In A1 bird eye AF is not a separate mode. It'ss a feature on top of the normal AF pattern that you use (zone was used here). If the camera is able to detect the eye it draws a frame around it and if not it will just go back to zone. These birds are very fast, I can't track them for more than 1-2 seconds so honestly I don't even remember if they camera was discerning the eye but I highly doubt it was able to in a split second that this shot was taken. One Thing I can tell though is that the 240Hz finder certainly makes a difference when shooting something like this where it can keep up with my swing.

Hey Pius, no these were individual birds flying, I have never been able to get anything useful from a flock
