I agree with Geoff Canada Canada's MSRP is over priced fo Canadians, and Canon may find Canadians will once more start buying from US Dealers instead of Canadian, much like happened several years ago.

Yeah, but you folks have all the cool critters to click on up there so just consider it a wash.

Here is the message I got from Camera Canada.

Hello,

Hope you are well! Canon has announced the new RF600 f4 and RF400mm f2.8. We are taking pre orders now. Release date is sometime in July. Pricing as follows.

Canon RF 600mm f4 - $17199 + tax
Canon RF 400mm f2.8 - $15899 + tax

We will be ordering lots of these, however Canon has already indicated us about low allocations due to production delays and other Pandemic related issue. We will have some pre order special price for all of you loyal customers, however that all depends on supply. We will keep you posted.

As always, we do not need deposit, and there is no obligation to get if you pre order it.

Let us know if you would like to get on the pre order list.

Excellent, I was hoping the retail price would be lower. I wonder what my "Power Buyer" price would be?

Why Canon.ca puts out ridiculous MSRPs is beyond me. These retail prices are identical to the current EF III prices.

Wrap the TC in silver duct tape and throw that up on ebay!

Hmmmm....Interesting idea. Maybe I'll be able to afford that RF 400 f/2.8 after all.

199 for the tripod mount for the 100 Macro, and get the price of the lens hood. Thanks Canon. Also on the 100 Macro, I hope it is better than the current 100 macro for the SLR. Nice but nothing special but looks to be totally different in design and hopefully they worked harder on it. My 180 Macro that I have had for years is still excellent.

I just want to know if the motors are really upgraded like some people say, or if it's just wishful thinking and some Canon rep misspoke to a YouTuber. Some official clarity would be good.

You must be new to Canon. Canon's lens rings are always pricey, but quality third party ones are always available and all L series lenses come with the lens hood. My 100L is wicked sharp and the IS is wonderful...

IMO, they didn't do themselves (or their customers) any favors with their aesthetic design choices, either. That silver adapter-looking part of it makes it stand out that you could just be using an EF lens with that adapter right there.

Imagine you're at a major sporting event working with a pool of lenses serving both EF mount and RF mount camera users. The silver mount provides a very fast, positive identification of which lens is for which mount, even for those unfamiliar with the system nuances. It could prevent a lot of frustration and lost opportunities.

1) To cash in on anyone foolish enough not to shop around.
2) To keep their dealer network happy since I can only imagine they're not thrilled about Canon Canada selling to end users in direct competition.
3) To establish an artificially high MSRP so buyers think they're getting a 'deal' at the still high street price.

Just says they use “Canon’s strongest ring-type USM motors” so I’d assume those are the same as the ones in the EF lenses.

I am excited about this lens too. The Dual USM Motor + SA Control Ring + 8 stops of Sync IS + Control Ring (subjective) justifies the $300 premium price over the Sony 90G lens IMO.

All of this discussion about the two big white lenses that are the same lenses as their EF counterpart with a different mount...not even a control ring.

Meanwhile, the 100L Macro has some genuinely great features (an AF lens greater than 1:1 macro, SA control, dual USM motors should make it focus brilliantly. Sample images show almost no CA...) Seems to be a real winner. Don't know if I feel up to spending $1,400 on it, but it's something that will likely eventually end up in my bag, and is by far the most exciting thing announced this morning.

Makes you wonder whether the RF 500L will be an upgrade over the 500LII, or the same.

Since there has been anticipation over a 500 MkIII EF version that would lose even more weight (like the 600LIII), I wonder if not announcing a 500 RF is related to an upcoming improved design.

I can't believe the CAD price went up $3000-$3200 on these lenses while the USD price stayed the same. The CAD has appreciated significantly over the USD since the time the EF IIIs were announced. I can order the 600RF from B&H and pay ~ $17,500 CAD (maybe as high as $18,000 with VISA exchange rate) vs $20,000 CAD if I buy in Canada.

I guess we will see if the listed retailer price is lower as it sometimes is.

Wonder if the MSRPs are based on 'worst case' Yen <--> CA$ predictions?

Canada's economy is hugely dependent on US$, but Canon isn't exporting the lenses into the US and then from the US to Canada, are they?

My gut says the 400 and 600 came first because they are basically just adapted EF lenses, and the 300 and 500 are coming later because they are getting more of the actual RF treatment.

Yeah i know we where like that 2 years ago when i was ordering from a store in Ontario we used to pay only 5% of taxes . We didn't have HST back then ....

If only Canadians Dealers would use their brains they would match the US pricing and wouldn't loses the sales.

We now know the retail price actually being charged is less than you'd pay if you bought in the US. Especially for those of us that don't have to pay PST from an Ontario store but would have to pay it from B&H. When BC split the stupid HST back into GST and PST we were able to buy from AB and ON stores without paying PST. But where there is HST that doesn't work.
