Could I bother you to show that? As in a back to back comparison with a better rendering lens? Just from your description I fail to get an idea what you mean or how much this matters.
I took these at a recent mountain bike retreat weekend. Amanda (pictured) started the fire going but then she really got into a rhythm of spraying embers upward with the large branch she wielded. She was in a focused, trance like meditative state. Away from the fire, super friendly and solid bike rider.
I took two lenses on a recent trip to Madeira: a new to me Tamron 50-400 f4.5-6.3 for day-light shooting and the 35 mm GM for low-light situations. I very much like the low-light performance of the latter at f/1.4.
