For the first two shots could you tell me what time of day you were shooting at? For outdoor flash photography my preference is to use the flash to illuminate the subject but also set my camera exposure to that ambient light is also captured, such as how you did with the last photograph, or to shoot at a time of day where I can do so. Otherwise it seems that the subject bleeds into the dark background a little too much. If shooting in the dark was your only option, a second light could be positioned somewhere behind the subject and used as a means to separate their figure from the dark background. I also feel as if the positioning of the light in the first two shots might have been too low and too much too the side, based on the upper eye socket being the only part illuminated on the right side of his face (camera left). A higher angle on the light will contour the facial features, and positioning the light a little less from the side of the subject should illuminate the entire eye rather than just the top of the eye-socket.
I think you did quite well with the last shot. The lighting is very flattering and blends well with the ambient lighting.
