I've been going to the North Umpqua river since the late '90s. There have been a few forest fires there in that time, but the Labor Day fires of 2020 are a whole new thing. Previous fires in this area resulted in scattered areas of burned trees. This time there are miles of river where all the trees on either side are burned up to the far ridges. I expect this will become the new normal as climate change marches on. It's good to see the moss coming back, it will be interesting to watch as the area regrows.
