I haven’t bought Sigma lenses lately, but availability of Sigma products appear very good to me. Also I like that they have a service organization in the Nordics, so a lens doesn’t need to be shipped far away. If you buy Zeiss, everything needs to go to Oberkochen in Germany, not that far, but still. Sigma’s Nordic repair shop seems to be located in Stockholm, with a turnaround of five days unless they need parts from Japan.
I have a couple of candidates I’m looking at now, 24/3.5 and 100-400mm for Sony.
According to lenstip.com the Sigma 24/3.5 has much less distortion than the Sony 24/2.8 (1.5% vs 8% in raw). This lens would be part of a kit of small primes.
I would also like a lightweight 100-400mm, so Sigma is the strongest candidate. I think it makes sense in combination with the Sony 200-600mm....Show more →
I like Sigma Contemporary series a lot, so I have bought the whole set of I-series lenses + 28-70/2.8 in E-mount for my A7C and I almost duplicated the same selection in L-mount for my Sigma fp (skipped the 65/2 in L since I figured the zoom can cover the long end well and provides more flexible coverage). 24/3.5 is definitely nice, it's one of my favorites among those.
I don't have a lot of use for big fast primes nowadays and I've never shot much at tele end beyond 200mm but if Sigma rolls out a nice 70-200/2.8 at some point I would consider it for future event use in E-mount. They might also expand I-series at some point but at least in Japan their zooms and some of the Art series primes seem to sell much more than I-series in general and I think they'll be busy bringing out a fuller set of Art primes as DG DN for a while + a few more zooms.
