Some while ago there were threads about focus issues with the RF 70-200mm f2.8 L and these threads seem to have gone quiet - does anyone have any information on whether this means those issues have now been resolved - and if so, did that resolution involve any fixes other than firmware?

It was just a firmware fix and the lens works flawlessly since.

I have just answered my own question. Took delivery of my copy already loaded with firmware 1.08 and it's perfect - razor sharp edge to edge and no field noticeable field curvature - smashing rendering, great portability

I've just picked up a secondhand RF 70-200 f2.8 in excellent condition, and updated the lens firmware to 1.1.1 before testing it. Razor sharp wide open and at f8 at all focal lengths using AF EXCEPT in the centre at 200mm, f2.8, where it's distinctly soft. Focussed manually, though, it's as sharp as at any other focal length. Oddly, however, in the extreme corner it's ideally sharp using AF.

I had thought the firmware updates had fixed this problem. Any suggestions?

I don't think that a firmware update can fix an uneven focus plane. That seems to be more of a lens anomaly.
