p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Samyang 35mm f/1.2 ED AS UMC CS - real surprising gem

Hello guys and greeting from Sofia, Bulgaria!

To be honest I couldn't find any topic about this fantastic mf lens that's why I decided to share my personal impressions and experience. This lens is generally intended for APS-C cameras but maybe a lot of people have noticed the same as me. It's very sharp wide open at 1.2 and the surprise - covers almost full frame with negligible vignettng. As the good news is that this vignette can be eliminated without cropping - just using 2 sliders in LIghtroom!

So I can show some of my photos taken with A7xx full frame cameras (the real wow surprise is that it's razor sharp @1.2 even on 42MP sensor)

Best regards,

Pavel

P.S. In terms of interesting bokeh IMHO Samyang beats even Voigtlander Nokton 40 1.2.

This lens is for E-Mount Lens/APS-C Format.
How do you get you A7xx camera to use it as full frame?

Those mirrorless manual focus APS-C Samyang primes are very good. I've tried the 12/2, 35/1.2, and 50/1.2. I am sure the 85/1.8 is also very good. The 50mm also covers full-frame fairly well--just not as well as a cheaper full-frame lens. Also quite a few F1.4 primes are brighter than those F1.2's.

Woooooooow. Well, if I ever wanna drop money on a manual focus only lens, this looks to be a great option. Can't believe it's so close to full frame.

Nice shots but would be nice to see some higher res shots to judge the lens quality IMHO.

Wow! So that first example in your link, the B&W portrait of the man, that's not cropped at all? Or did you crop some while processing? Great photos, by the way.

Definitely a nice feature of Sony, let the user decide if they want to try and make use of lenses on full frame. Not really sure about other manufacturers other than Canon's EF vs EF-S thing.

Some lenses work better than others, I actually use the 16-50mm PZ lens as a tiny walkable pancake lens. In the middle range it covers fairly well, but at the ends of the zoom range there are definitely some limitations (though I like the option of being able to recover some of it).

Here as far as I can remember, I made some slight cropping.

Here I uploaded jpegs sooc. If you somewhere notice lack af any vignette, I have been shooting on clear image zoom x 1.1 or 1.2:

Just ordered. That 3D pop is exactly what I've been looking for in a travel/vacation lens. It'll be interesting to see how it performs next to my Voigt 35mm 1.2

Our forum member cahren wrote me a PM but due (yet) low number of posts I cannot reply to this message. So the questions regarded front element moving (yes or no) and comparison to Voigtlander 40 1.2. My answers:

1. No - the front element is not moving I think

2. I have both lenses - I still consider Samyang to be the sharpest and funniest :P
