In Field Techniques:
Stabilize tripod (I have some unique techniques I teach clients to stabilize a tripod even in a cypress swamp)!
Rest! Breathe! Take it all in as you thoroughly enjoy your scene, and the light unfolds before your eyes.
At the peak of beautiful light, take a shot with camera settings that will still the foliage movement (if that is your personal preference). I almost always auto exposure bracket 5 - 9 exposures at a time because I never know what exposure is really going to be the best quality (for the critical print file) until I carefully evaluate them back home on the computer.
Quickly change your f/stop to the largest number (smallest aperture - longest exposure) and, if needed, put a screw on (or better yet - magnetic!) 3 or 6 stop Neutral Density Filter (neutral black filter that lengthens exposure without discoloration) on your lens, and shoot a second, longer exposure shot (or a series of shots to find what works best).
Processing:
In Adobe's New Unprecedented Quality 32-bit, Raw Layer Processing Workflow (feel free to PM me if you have questions or need more info) make your corrections/adjustments to one layer and then apply the same settings to the other layer.
Match the exposure/luminance/brightness of both images (separate layers) by putting a point sample into both images at the same location (to take a RGB reading of that area) then adjust the lossless 32-bit Raw "exposure" of the layers so that they match perfectly.
Simply, mask the two together.
Save!
Make sure to make an exquisite LUMACHROME HD acrylic mount print (BIGGER is better!) maybe with True Life non glare acrylic! FYI: many consider Nevada Art Printers Lumachrome HD, the ultimate acrylic mount, super-gloss photo paper in the world today.
