Roger Cicala has a very good article on testing a lens. Sorry I don't have a link. In this article he suggests a gentle shake to verify that there isn't a free screw or some other thing in the lens. He also states that you should not worry if it has internal image stabilization because they will make a slight noise...obviously not a problem with the Voightlander.

I have seen the same lens in stationary shop and the sound was the same, so it`s apparently normal. I will keep it, because the lens is fantastic. Had 20/1.8 some time ago and in my opinion only if AF is indispensible the 20/1.8 would be better. In all other aspects V21 is a reall joy to use, I guess the amout of Voigtlander posts on this forum speaks for itself.
