I have been following several Red-tailed hawks for several weeks at a big city park. The mature has a has a beautiful red tail. I have been trying several times to get a flight shot to no avail. I can find him most days as he sits patiently on a tree limb looking for voles in the afternoon. He is one patient bird. Several times I stood below waiting for him to fly for over and hour until my feet were frozen. Today I got a great perched shot and decided to wait him out again. He jumped of the tree and I thought I had my holy grail shot, but no cigar. He passed behind a big tree and the blurry image is proof of the beautiful tail, but I couldn't catch the focus again. Of well there is always tomorrow. My hat is off to guys like Joshua, Arbitrage, Pius, Louie, and Tony and several others on this forum that continually get the flight shots.

Frustrating, isn't it?

Good try, Dave, and if makes you feel any better, please don't ask to see how many of my in-flight attempts made it only as far as the trash can.

Here in Iowa, the hawks are so skittish they often fly off as soon as I let off the accelerator. Some days it seems there's one on every power pole. Keep at it, they are beautiful.

Thanks Vlad for looking. Yup most of the time he goes the other way and you loose the focus as it goes through big trees, and then he is gone.
