People have already been adapting the Mamiya 80 f/1.9 to the GFX as a portrait lens, and if anything the results are just as nice as the GF 63 or 110 (though I've never been a fan of the Mamiya 80 1.9 bokeh). I think 80 is a sweet spot for 44x33 that is untapped – not as everyday as the GF 63 and not as background-obliterating as the GF 110 is at close range.
That said, if they ever make an f/1.7 or f/2 GF 63, I would want to buy that as well.
The Mamiya is an interesting example since it's an equivalent of the 63, when used on the format it was made for. IMO it's not nearly as good as the GF 63 or 110 (I own all three). And I don't understand why that AOV would be a "sweet spot" when it's never been considered that on any other format, ever.
And I don't think it has anything with the 50/1.0 to do either. If anything, it might be a strange habit of some medium format shooters to still use 80 mm just because that was the standard lens on 645, and in the beginning of digital MF, that was what they had even if the sensor was smaller.
There are so many other gaps to fill in the lens linup, that this 80/1.7 makes no sense at all. Not now, at least.
