p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · The Orion Nebula M42 & Running Man Nebula NGC1977

I re-imaged these last night/this morning with more integration time to bring out more of the dust cloud.

Image was not cropped.

It consists of the following:

140 x 60 sec. exposures, gain 100 (lights), 20 darks, 30 flats, 100 bias frames.

Nice treatment of a tricky target. I have seen this processed using HDR techniques to retain some of the detail in the Trapezium area. That can be nice, but also nice to see things without that technique applied, as it emphasizes the amazing range of brightness across this area of the sky. Not to be overlooked either is the Running Man - I have always liked that area too. You have brought out some nice detail and subtle coloring in that object as well. Very good result!
