I haven't been able to get out and shoot for awhile, so I've been going through some of my photos. I was in the Eastern Sierras last Winter and came across this grove of Aspens backed up against a grove of pines. The play of light and dark caught my eye. Comments and critique is not only welcome, it is encouraged.

Nice textural pattern like neural network created by trees

Classic example of an image that is not one that I would notice walking about but that makes for a very nice capture. Well seen for sure, and I like the way this was framed and processed too. Good work indeed.

Beautiful image. One minor quibble: the bright branch at the very lower left corner could either be tamed or cloned out.

Thanks so much for your comment. I've always liked the delicate patterns of Aspen branches.

Hi Rajan,
Thanks so much for the suggestion. Although I didn't notice that branch before, once you pointed it out it became obvious to me that it is a distraction. I will darken it as per your advice. I really appreciate that you took the time to comment.

Thanks so much, I find Aspens beautiful regardless of the season.

Nice! Normally, for me, this would be a ball of confusion and way too busy. But since you filled the frame so evenly, it comes alive in an interesting way.

Very well captured. . . without looking too busy!

I would try to see how this image looks if:

1. The dark tones made even in absolute values and amount on the left and right side of the trunks. To my eye the left side is darker and has more pronounced contrast between dark and light.
2. The dark tones are lifted (made less dark)

I rechecked the values on the image and the darks are pretty evenly balanced between the left and right side. The right side has more dense branches and those light branches might make the left side appear darker. This image encompasses zones 0-7. I also made a copy and tried making the darks more absolute as well as lightening the darks. I still prefer the image as posted except for darkening the branch on the lower left as suggested by Rajan. I do appreciate your input, it made me re-evaluate my post processing and analyze it more carefully for tonal values.
