On a brief holiday to the English Lake District we visited Loweswater and hiked the circuit of the Lake. These were taken on the homeward stretch. Looking towards Blake Fell and Grassmoor.

I will never understand why people shoot landscapes at low F stops ....

Don't get me wrong, these are very nice. I like the comp in all 3, very well done. But, why shoot @ F5.6 is beyond me.

Because the 'low F-stop' is what he wanted to shoot it at.

It helps with the depth of field. Lower f stop helps to get more of the foreground and background on focus and there might be some performance improvements. Most lenses benefit from stopping down unless you are aiming to blur your background to oblivion and in which case you are shooting something related to portraits.
