yet. These were taken during our last Snowy Owl irruption in 2012. I'm posting these in hopes of another irruption. They happen about every 7 years. It's been 8 yrs. A Snowy Owl has been spotted south of Seattle, so I hope this is the beginning. I shot these with my 1st DSLR a Rebel xsi. Shot slides previously. The 2nd image was taken 5 min before the lift off, 3rd image. The light was dropping fast. The 4th was where it missed its prey very close to me. It was darker there and I under exposed by 2 stops. This is an excellent set Rex. I did not know there is a cycle. We only had one last winter though she was quite kind to me providing lots of opportunities. Have a bunch of them show up in a few weeks would be a great ending to a pretty crappy year.
Having been oblivious to this irruption and living a long ways away, I have been crossing my fingers every December for another one now that I live just an hour and a half ferry ride to get to Boundary Bay.
Your shots have motivated me to keep my fingers crossed more often. Great work.
I saw that so far there have just been a couple sightings in central AB but that is typical every year. They need to cross the Rockies.
Any time I see snowy owl(s) in the description, I get excited. I remember that year very well. Sweet shots. You got some great light in that second one.
Nice variety Rex. I wonder if that 7 or 8 year cycle coincides with a similar cycle with rabbits?
Too bad the appearance of the snowies at Boundary Bay results in greater numbers of photographers every year. As I recall, some of them blatantly ignore the distance postings just to get a better shot.

Nice shots. It looks like the family was very tolerable of your presence. I really like the 2nd image, especially with the soft background and the family shot with the landscape. I'd print that one.
