"Moon Rise on the Sun"

Moon Rise on the Sun LR by Doug Stevens, on Flickr

OK, so granted, the title is a little odd. However the "Sun" in the case is the Sun River which flows out of the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Rocky Mountain Front of Montana.

A photo from last week when the cottonwoods were peaking along the river banks. However, the photo was challenging due to sustained 50 mph wind! Not uncommon for this part of the world

PS - The colors and sharpness alway go a little funky when I upload here and the contrast increases with the shadows getting a bit darker. Also, cross posted on Loxia site

Sounds like you have calibration issues with your monitor, possibly gamma set improperly? Sharpness issue likely not related.

Jeff:

No, I have not calibrated my monitor. For what it's worth, I use an Apple Retina. To be honest - I don't really know what gamma is - could you send me a reference so I can read up on it?

What I am seeing is that the image looks one way in LR, another when I export it. It then changes when uploading into Flickr and sometimes again into FM. I am dealing with this right now with another night image I am trying to post to Sony/Loxia site.

Thanks

Doug

I'd start here, I really like this site for learning about things like this:

Nice milkway shot. Is it a single expsoure?

Everybody - thanks for the likes and recommendations.

No, it is a composite of multiple exposures.

This was a little after a quarter+ moon had risen. The MW was getting washed out, so not as "bright" as other MW photos you normally see. Meanwhile, the river bottom was quite dark. I stacked about 10-12 photos of the MW in Starry Landscape Stacker and 3-4 longer exposures for the river bottom and combined them in PS. I am a novice at this type of photography/processing and know, with experience, it can be done better than presented here. I expect in several months (during the down time of winter), I will hopefully be better at this and try to process this again.

Thanks again

Doug
