Peek-a-boo and Spooky slot canyons in Utah. A great way to spend a hot day - and before you take the hike, whatever you think you need for water - DOUBLE IT!!

Excellent images! Did you go recently? I have a trip coming up to Zion and was thinking to going to Peek-a-boo slot. Was is crowded when you where there? Thanks for sharing.

One of the biggest mistakes for those visiting AZ and UT. If you think you have enough water, it's never enough!!! Then there is the altitude issue people are not aware of!! Nice shots!

This was 5 weeks ago. Both slots are next door to each other so if you do Peek-a-boo you might as well do Spooky (which I prefer between the two). There are two places to park - a trailhead with restrooms right on Hole-in-the-Rock Rd or a more primitive side road that has a place to park at end of road and places you closer to the slots. We did the former and had further to hike (but this takes you through the main slot canyon itself, which is nice.) We went fairly early in the morning - maybe 8:00'ish. There were two other parties that arrived while we were shooting - so it was easy shooting without interruption. As we were hiking out there were many more hiking in. So I would recommend early morning (and you don't want that harsh overhead sun anyway poking into the slots).

And this is a lesson I keep learning over and over again! Especially when you are not sure how far you are going, what the trail will be like, or how long you plan to stay. We carried what I though was plenty of water - but learned an uncomfortable lesson. Which is why I say whatever you think you need - double it!!

Nice shots. I never tire of seeing the redrock and I particularly like the magenta tones in the first one. Did you make it into Brimstone too? That's my favorite of the 3 slots there, but probably the hardest to shoot in considering how tight and dark it is.

Regarding people, I've been down there 3 times, so far from an expert, but the 2 times that I've been on a weekend it has gotten very busy by late morning. There are other cool slots you can access along Hole in the Rock that will have fewer people, though.

Thank you Daniel! I'm still trying to figure out the best way to shoot these slots.

Did not make it to Brimstone, nor Zebra. This was a spur of the moment decision while driving on Hole in the Rock Rd. And is just one more reason why I NEEEED to go back there!
