As for a platypod, Amazon sells a Decade plate that is less expensive and works better. I've had both.

I don't spend money based on being paranoid. So I pass on all of those so-called security bags.

The Decade looks like a good alternative; I would have bought it had I been aware of it. I did get a good deal on the Platypod and have gotten a great deal of use out of it so don't mind having spent the few bucks extra. Hard to distinguish any differences in functionality from what I've read.

As for being "paranoid", I would substitute "prudent" since I'm often in places that warrant some common sense. Apart from the security features in the PacSafe, it's a nice waist pack--well-made, comfortable, roomy, light, well-padded, and conveniently worn front or back. Just because you can lock it down doesn't mean you have to. But as I said, I wouldn't presume to recommend a bag, or pass judgment on others' choices.

I’ve been a Domke person for almost 40 years - and my favorite remains the 1984 version of the Domke F3X. Beaten and battered it is like an old pair of jeans. That said, I just picked up a Wotancraft Pilot and have to say I am impressed - even with the price. It will not be my last Wotancraft bag!

I bought a small PacSafe bag and PacSafe straps when I went to Barcelona, a city known for non-violent pickpockets. Have never used them since and wouldn’t use it in more violent surroundings as the straps also mean you can’t easily let go off your gear and you may get dragged along by a guy on a scooter. I do have a PacSafe net that I used when I was in sketchy hotels to make it harder for thieves to get to the gear. I go by thinking that criminals seek out the easy targets, so while it doesn’t prevent the committed thief, it will make the lazier one move to another target. I don’t think that’s being paranoid.

People also spend money on extended warranties based on emotion.

I don't think there is data on the effectiveness on so-called security bags, which is why I don't buy them or recommend them.
A robber is going to pay more attention to the victim than the bag. Being aware of your surroundings goes a lot further.

The problem I had with the Platypod was that you cannot remove the bolt in the middle. That means you have to run the risk of the bolt cutting something (like your bag) or make sure you have it covered well at all times. It also means the plate takes up more room in the bag.
With Decade the bolt is removable so you can slip the plate into your laptop section of your bag. I stow mine under a floormat in the car. No risk in snagging things.

It's why I'd recommend the Decade even if it wasn't a fraction of the price.
I don't like to see people pay more unnecessarily.

I currently use a Gura Gear Kiboko 2.0 16L Backpack for my Canon 7D system. I really like this bag but I see Gura Gear made some bad business decisions and they decimated this line. Bottom line, I guess, is that I really like how this bag is set-up. I plan to purchase a MFT system and still use this bag treating myself to a bit of extra room for non-camera gear (that I never had before!) when I travel.

But I will also be looking for a smaller shoulder-strap type bag I can throw in the car that only has to hold a subset of the gear.

Billingham Digital. Sage green w/chocolate leather trim. Holds my Pen F w/Oly 12-45/4 & Oly 40-150/4-5.6R, a couple filters & 3 batteries. Medical reasons don't allow carrying anything heavier. Works for me!

Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home for in-city/light carry. 1 body, 2-3 lenses, spare batteries and my Platypod.

I really miss Crumpler, they're still around but a shadow of themselves. I have the original (wide) 7 Million Dollar Home and their strap as well, and have been holding on to them for a decade or more.

For serious hiking, I use a proper hiking pack with a camera insert, I like to have a hydration bladder and I've yet to see a camera-focused pack with hydration.

Lowepro photosport series are designed to take a hydration bladder. I have one, but tend to carry a water bottle instead of a bladder. They are a good, very lightweight design, but will only take 1 camera and a couple of lenses and not large enough for overnight use.

I'll check them out.

For the hiking I tend to do, hydration is key. I'll drink 2-3 litres of water over the course of a hike plus a water bottle with something other than water (gatorade or similar in the summer).

12mm f2
17mm f1.8
60mm f2.8 M

I read this as what’s in your bag :-)
I’ve been meaning to get a proper camera bag that can hold 4 lenses, a body, and an iPad - haven’t found one of my liking yet!

Streetwalker

A somewhat unfortunate name I always think.

The Mountainsmith shoulder bag is excellent for a MFT kit and I like that it has a yellow lining that makes it much easier to find black photo items.

For travel the Gura Gear Battaflae 18L is as good as it gets. Exterior pockets so one can get a flash or shutter release or a battery or memory care case without having to open the main compartment and it has a slot for a laptop. When they were being discontinued by the people at Gura Gear I bought 3 of them as I have found nothing that is as well designed and well made.

I use a Canon Deluxe bag -- it holds my two Olympus E-M10s (one with the 75-300mm attached, the other with the 45-150) plus a Lumix GX85 and 25mm and 12-32mm lenses as well as a set of extension tubes, all my filters, four extra batteries, a Neewer LED light, microfiber cloths and a lens brush plus a small first-aid kit, snack and a partial roll of a paper product; and often a water bottle in a side pocket.

For a camera-focused bag with hydration check out the
Mindshift Ultralight. I've used it to carry my EM1.2, Olympus 12-100 and 100-400.
It is also set up for a water bladder.
It also has tripod straps and a water bottle holder (in which I put a bottle of trail mix if I'm using the bladder.

It's a great bag and ticks all of my boxes.

I bought mine used several years ago. It's the best hybrid bag I have.

Gear access is easy but the gear compartment on mine (smaller version) isn't long enough to hold the 100-400 mounted on the EM1.2.
However, I don't find it necessary to have fast access to shoot things (wildlife) that are far away.

You can't have both quick access and security.
