I haven't been on here in a long time, but surprised to see there isn't a thread for this topic. Is anyone going shooting nowadays with the pandemic going on?

I'm primarily interested in fall colors in Colorado. Been hearing it might be tough to find them with the recent wildfires, but wondering if anyone might have any sightings of good spots?

The evening news today had some nice color on the Bierstadt Lake trail in RMNP. A few days ago they showed about 1/4 of the aspens around Bear Lake had color. So, central Colorado should be great for fall color trips now, assuming the wildfire smoke behaves. I plan to be out next week.

My daughter was up in the Tioga Pass area and then to Mammoth last weekend. I haven't really had a chance to talk to her about fall colors coming on but the smoke conditions were quite bad aside from a few short periods following some minimal rains. It doesn't sound promising for the Eastern Sierra while a week might make a difference, I believe the Inyo National Forest remains closed for recreational activities.

Stopped by Boreas Pass near Breckenridge on Saturday. Looked ok overall, but clearly missed the best color by a couple of days. The NW end of the pass near Breckenridge had a lot of windblown trees; the SE end was mostly spotty (some trees still green, others with yellow/gold).

Probably won't get another chance to make it into the mountains to check out the fall colors, but I'm guessing any color next week is probably likely to be in more southern Colorado (Telluride, Gunnison / Crested Butte, Lake City, etc) since that's mostly where the recent wildfires haven't been.

Just came back from western CO, and am heading back next weekend.
McClure Pass is good - not at peak though. Drove through Marble to the Crystal Mill, and it is maybe 65% peak.
Owl Pass near Ouray is good. Would say maybe 5 days to peak, but hard to tell.

Colors near Telluride are good, and not at peak yet

Thanks for update Dustin. I'm headed out to Rifle on Wednesday, Durango on Thursday (for work) and then Ouray/Ridgway for the weekend. I'll update the group then.

I was up at Silver Jack Resevoir this past weekend, the colors were good, but the haze is horrible if you're looking for any big landscapes. You'll definitely want to plan on staying intimate unless conditions change.

Came over I-70 yesterday. Vail was odd ... some green, some washed out yellow, some bare trees. Did a quick drive though the Grand Mesa, it was beautiful. Air was clear, but the sky was 99% cloud free so quick shots were hard to come by. I'd say, unless there is a big windstorm, the Mesa has at least 4-5 days left of real nice conditions.

Am sitting Ouray right now. Sky was a mess all day. A combination of low, flat and thin clouds and haze. Color, OTOH, is outstanding. That near perfect mix of 30% green, 60% yellow, and a touch of orange here and there, with the odd bare section. Plus, the oak is almost all red. Again, it looks like 4-5 more days before we fully transition to the down side. Hoping for good skies tomorrow.
