Wow these are fantastic photos of a species I have never seen. I looked for them on Mt Evans and also a few other places last summer when I visited CO but never was lucky enough to find one. Beautiful colors, tone and processing. Really a pleasure to view. What gear did you use?

That's the fun thing about some grouse species. You look and you look and you look and then when you find one they are so tame that they practically walk up to you. Had that happen with a Sooty Grouse in Washington years back .I hiked around for hours and hours and then finally found a mother with 2 babies. They walked on the trail right in front of me at Rainier. Amazing to be able to shoot any wild bird with a 70-300!

I could have reached out and touched them. No fear at all. One was on the side of the road, got out and walked right up to them. I was more surprised then they were.

They were muching on berries. Went back 4 days later, and they were nowhere to be found
