There wasn't an image thread for this so I thought I would kick off one. I do product shots for review for a photography site. I wanted something that would allow me to stand back a little for product shots (due to the lighting) but still allow me to get in close for close up shots.

This arrived last night so just been playing with it. The DOF is incredibly shallow at 2:1. The dial photo is at f11 I think.

This video had the Laowa as sharper than the Sony but if it is sharper, it's irrelevant as the Sony is so sharp, it's pretty much sharp enough. The big thing is understanding whether you need the 2:1

I have had both lenses but I sold my Sony 90mm macro before I got the Laowa 100mm. So no side by side comparison but I don't have this impression that the Laowa is any sharper than the Sony. The Sony lens is just amazing. The most noticeable difference is in the minimum working distance. Due to its design, the Laowa has shorter MWD at 9cm versus 13cm for the Sony at 1:1. On the positive side, it goes to 2:1 magnification. It's a trade off. I feel for photographing insects, the Laowa is more intimidating as I have to get closer. Though, I am nowadays leaning towards the Laowa 24mm Probe lens. I feel like it is far less intimidating than the other two lenses due to such a small ending of the lens. I can get very close to the insect before scaring it!

This is a focus stack of two pictures. If I remember correctly, the magnification was 1:1.

I thought that in Stewart Wood's review on YouTube, he mentioned that the Sony version of the Laowa 100mm does not have auto aperture. Can anyone confirm that? If yes, has that been an issue?

That is correct; the aperture is fully mechanical, operated manually.
To me, that has not been an issue. The "self-adjusting brightness" (for lack of a better term) of the EVF and display compensates well for the decreasing light throughput from stopping down.
When using a tripod, I simply focus wide open and then stop down.

Worth noting is that the aperture ring is indented in full stops only (but the ring can be turned to in between stops)

Amazing pictures. I have never tried 2:1 macro. Might give it a shot when I have more time to practice the focus stacking skills.
