Thank you Morris. I really wish the other deer wasn't in the background.

I like the second deer there. It adds interest without distracting.

Gary, I am not big on taking pictures of deers but these images are lovely. The second deer is fortunately fairly far away to pose a real distraction. Frankly, the whitish vegetation that covers the nose area in #4 is more distracting. Well-captured, Gary!

I love all of these together in this set. You got great variety. I love the softness of the first two photos, but my favorite is #5. Such great eye-contact, composition, and sharpness.

Thank you Joshua. Trust me, deer are certainly not my first choice of subjects but Buffalo is not exactly a hotbed for wildlife photography so I shoot what I can I keep going back to this area because I know there's interesting subjects about, getting close enough is the issue. As for the second deer, I guess this is where the 2.8 helped me out and after reading Morris' comment I now think it adds rather than detracts. I took along my D3400 attached to my Sigma 120-300 2.8 to compliment my D500 with the 500 F4. I usually only carry the D500 with the 500. First time using the D3400 for wildlife. What I discovered, probably to no one's surprise, the D3400 is abysmal regarding focus. These 2 are just about the only frames in focus out of probably 25 or 30. I have a D810 but it's a little heavy for hiking when I"m also carrying the D500 and my 500 F4 AF-I which is a beast. I need a lightweight backup. Thanks for the input !

Nice to see some mammals instead of a steady diet of birds.
I like #3 and 5. Nice and sharp and no interference.
