Here's a few from a recent Everglades outing featuring egrets and herons. My goodness, I can't wait until fall/winter, it is so brutally humid and buggy down here in the Florida swamps

I have always loved & preferred a minimalist-type of imagery, and this first one really speaks to me and totally makes me happy. Perfect environmental conditions with calm dark water reflecting a completely overcast sky contributed to the zen-like feel. Shot with Sony a7RIV and 200-600.

The second image really doesn't translate at all to a small web size due to the busy background, ton of fine detail and a lot happening, but I find it completely hysterical. It makes me think of a couple of judges (the two egrets) watching the performance of the Tricolored Heron (as he says to himself "better stick the landing!)

Also shot with Sony a7RIV and 200-600.

Some very nice images here, thank you for sharing. I really like the 1st shot due to the lighting and composition.

While the second is interesting with 3 species in the image and a bit of action, I like the first best for the simplicity

I believe the majority of folks here would prefer the first one, which is simple but yet artistic.

Maybe I shouldn't have read your opening paragraphs before looking at your pictures but I'm totally with ya on both--first one calm, serene, Zen-like and the second brought a big smile.

The first shot is beautiful. I read so many negative comments about the A7RIV and 200-600 combination for BIF, I would be curious to hear about your overall focusing experience (AFC). I now know that at least one of your shots was in focus.

Jeff, I also had real focusing issues with the RIV and 200-600 combo. While I undoubtedly captured some spectacular shots with the combo, it was just too damn frustrating with random and chronic OOF shots for BIF and moving subjects. I’ve since gone back to the RIII and while I miss the RIV improvements quite a bit I don’t have the focusing issues anymore...Since there's been several anecdotal stories indicating Sony has confirmed and is investigating the matter, I could see going back to the RIV if a fix is released...
