Months of work, 4A.M. wake-ups...many car kilometers to drive, and tons of patience inside the hide for a few shots..

Hope you like them!

fantastic series.. the group portrait had me smiling.

how did you manage to acquire focus with the underwater shot? kingfishers in my local area are far and few, so i never had a chance to take their photos.

Amazing shots, how do you manage them? The stone circle looks like a target?

They got me smiling too when I saw them! 3 in the same branch!
I have to prefocus, and cross my fingers it enters were I think it will
Yeah...that means many missed shots!

Your efforts were definitely rewarded with these truly amazing shots. I, too am not a huge fan of the high key treatment. Nevertheless, the detail and dynamic motion does override that one small objection

The underwater shot is outstanding and certainly something I have never seen before.

The circle of rocks , was that done so you could place fish there and have an idea of where the birds would dive?

I do hope you post more .

Another great set of images from your Kingfisher setup!
Your prior post, https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1642327/0, showed a lot about your setup, but I too am curious about the stones. Do the fish congregate there?
Regardless of the details of how you got them, the results are amazing.

I wasnt a fan of high key either...until I started experimenting with some species like hummingbirds and now kingfishers...for high speed photography I think there is something special with the high contrast, so I also tend to use black backgrounds more and more...

Thank you sir! tons of work here...
Still have some time left with the family, so expect some NEW crazy stuff from me soon

Yes, fish tend to hide when they sense movement over them (shadows etc), and I saw their behavior in the river (one meter from this pond), so I put 3 bigger stones in order for them to "hide", and sometimes it works (other times they just act like the fish they are and swim fearlessly all over the pond)

Best,

Nicolas

wow these are amazing shots. I admire your patience as here our Kingfishers are so skittish. Do you use a two camera set up one above the water and your under water macro lens already in the water?
