p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Considering a move from my a7r3 system to an xt system

I’m considering a move from team Sony to team Fuji.

I use my camera for product shots, macros, Food, portraits and some architecture.

My go to lenses are the 55 1.8, the 90 macro and the 24-105. And one biannual job that the 28-70 kit lens wins for every time.

I also use an actus b setup. Ill keep that bad boy no matter what.

I do some video, product mostly. 120fps is fine for my needs.

Looking for advice on which body to move to and equivalent lenses. Ideally it would be a 1;1 swap.

Thanks in advance.

No XT-10, XT-20, XT-30 series as you can not tether them.

Why?

You aren't getting 1:1 but you can get close enough. Presumably you're aware that you'll see a reduction in image quality!?

I have an A7R3, X-T3, and X-Pro3 and I think an X-T3 or X-T4 would be what I would recommend. The X-T4 is more video centric; both will shoot identical stills. Only you can determine if the differences between these two bodies warrants buying the X-T4 over the already stellar X-T3.

The 35mm f/1.4 will make a suitable 55mm f/1.8 alternative. The f/2 version is quite good, but I'd pick up the 1.4 if your budget can stretch to it.

The 60mm and 80mm macro lenses are good but neither are quite as good as the FE 90. The 80 gets closer in terms of sharpness than the 60 but the 60 isn't a bad lens at all and you might be plenty happy with it.

The Fuji 16-55 is my go to standard zoom. It's outstanding. You might want to look at the 16-80 if you want the extra reach but it isn't as good optically as the 16-55.

Just curious to know what are 80mm macro's shortcomings compared to 90mm macro?

It's the best macro lens available in the Fuji system and it's a better lens than many competing lenses available for other systems, but the FE 90 is one of the finest lenses I have ever had the pleasure of using. The lens out-resolves the current Sony sensors, even the A7RIV.

In the Fuji system, the 80 is as good as macro gets. Excellent build quality and very sharp, even wide open. The XF 90 is sharper in my experience but that's not a macro lens.

After I switched to Fujifilm, I kept few manual focusing lenses. I tried 80mm native macro but in my opinion nothing beats Contax Zeiss 100m f2 & 60mm f2.8 on XT2 and XT30. Exceptional results...

I have A7Riv/FE90mm macro and X-T4/80mm macro.
The Sony is a floor above the Fuji macro.
Not saying the Fuji 80 is bad, but the Sony macro so good the Fuji just appears
lesser.
I did laugh first time I ever picked up the Fuji and hearing the rattle haha!

Thanks for the insight. I think I may just stay with the Sony. (Or move to the GFX) It does seem to tick almost all the boxes for me. The body grip battery compartment is a little big and in the way with the actus to get to the lens removal button (Compared to the A7 I replaced).

The one job with the kit lens is a fashion trend job that sounds more fun than it is taking photos of store windows and displays. But it’s not terrible.

I should pick Sony 90mm macro and see what it is. Then I compare with 120mm f4 GF.

There's nothing in your OP that makes me think the GFX line is a good fit for you, but what do I know. It would be hard to recommend going backwards to Fuji APS-C though if you're used to Sony image quality.

With sony specifically i would argue there is just about nothing including size difference that warrants this switch. They are pretty much the smallest lightest ff cameras. You will be disappointed with the difference in image quality, auto focus, and if you end up buying those larger aperture primes for better low light performance you are going to notice specifically with the 56 and 90 that they are still heavy lenses. But moreover, those faster primes are going to be even slower at af as they are mostly older lenses.

I was gonna say...I can see adding Fujibfir a fun factor but no way switch.
