There's a lot going on in this image and if you have the time pls read below:
a. This is a male howler monkey with a young which is not a common thing to see
b. It is suffering from a disease that suffers from the larvae of Dermatobia hominis (nuche), which are called irregular myiasis Impairs tissues and lowers their defenses, exposing them to other diseases that can lead to death.

The photograph was taken in the Amazon area of Ecuador.

It would looke a lot better with better post-processing, IMO.

That's very kind of you to say I just saw some of your images and I can understand why you would feel that way. Good luck.

Also, look* is spelt without an 'e'.

Wow Tony!

You complain when I provide critique when not asked. You go totally nuts and attack others if they critique your work. I'm now critiquing your behavior.

Thanks Morris, Im always up for critique when its constructive and benefits people. Ive been a photographer all my life and shoot in the most difficult conditions in South America. I appreciate the support (and some random comments at times) i get in this forum.

You have captured a sense of fear and angst in the monkey having to contend with the challenges of the disease. These portraits are "edgy" and un-nerving, rightly so.

As so many species are subjected to situations that challenge their existence, the world becomes a ever-sadder place.

Thanks for posting.

I suspect the images achieve exactly what the photographer wanted. They look very dramatic to me and evoke strong emotion.

Everyone has an opinion, but sometimes it's better not to share them.

Nice capture of guys who don't want to be seen. Dermatobia hominis is a Botfly, "nuche" in Spanish. The eggs enter the skin of many mammals including us and a worm grows inside. My friend here in Colombia had one in his wrist. He said when it comes out it will have blue eyes because he is Dutch ha ha. Howler Monkeys are pretty common all over Colombia. It is strange though. They are found at a reserve about sixty kilometers away in the same mountain range (Cordillera Occidental) but not at my place. Instead I have the the Night Monkey or Owl Monkey in the woods around my house.

Thanks for posting these images. Very nice. Efforts taken by people like you to capture animals in their natural habitat should be lauded.
Thanks for the tip on the cutaneous nodules - very interesting. (https://www.jwildlifedis.org/doi/pdf/10.7589/0090-3558-48.3.822).
