p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mountain sunset after a storm

Was up on a nearby mountain (social distancing). The scene may be familiar as it is one I have posted before. Last night was pretty special for me, however. The weather was bad--heavy winds, and it started thundering and raining when I arrived. The wind was too strong for an umbrella and I took my hat off to put over my lens and tripod and hoped that it would not blow away. There was a double rainbow that was amazing but I was poorly positioned to photograph it and I did not want to put my camera in the bag and move as I figured it would fade and then I might miss the light I was hoping would come in the opposite direction. In fact, the light was getting pretty but I was still being rained on and the wind was such that I could not take pictures. Eventually the rain stopped and I got in some shots. I had to up the ISO in order to avoid vegetation being blurred, so technically the pics may not print large, but it was sure fun to experience. Hope these give some idea. All with the same lens (NOT the time to change lenses, and I needed wide...) Thx for looking....

Thank you for your kind words. This was taken in Highlands, NC. It is about 45 minutes or an hour drive to the nearest section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can see mountains along the BRP from the top of this mountain, so you are not far off. I love the BRP overlooks, but my favorites are currently closed due to Covid-19. This area is close by our home in NC (walking distance) which gives me the luxury of going to this location often and eventually getting good light. I also find that getting to know a place well helps with composition as I am a pretty slow learner....

Nice set. My favorite is the second one: love the light on the rocks.

Thank you! Strangely, on my first pass through the pics, I did not even develop this one. Now, it is my favorite as well.

Thank you! It was "interesting" weather, but well worth the trouble. To me, it makes the pictures more special, somehow. Also, nice to know one is alone.
