Just got notice that my back order is shipping and that both B&H and Adorama have some stock of this hard to find lens available. At least as of early this morning 4/29.

With 1 day shipping selected at checkout at B&H its showing a Tuesday, May 4th delivery. The lens is showing as in stock. Seems they wouldn't ship my new order until Monday.

Still debating whether this lens is noticeably better for landscapes than my good copy of the Sony 24-105. Especially since I would be giving up 70-105, and IS - while gaining weight and size. Then there is the flare/ghosting performance that I still question after looking at several reviews. Definitely not in the same league as the Sigma 14-24 DG DN for Sony.

Gonna double down on my recommendation that this is a very good lens and complements the 24-105 nicely if it's in your budget.

Compliments because you want 71-105 at time? Or replaces?

Is the IQ a significant upgrade compared to a reasonably good copy of the 24-105? Ignoring 71-105mm of course.

Im finding mine better from 24-50mm then most zooms Ive tried. Better then the 24-105mm. Mine lets go at 70mm somewhat. This contradicts everything Ive read about it being worse at the wide end. I guess that's sample variation for you. Mine is stunning at 24mm..

Complementary in that the 24-105G is my go-to travel lens, with extra reach and is a half pound lighter than the Sigma. But when I don't have to worry so much about weight and don't need that reach, the extra stop of light has real benefits. So, if your budget can work it out, they're each versatile mid-range zooms that serve a need.

If you could only pick one, then sure, go for the 24-105 and have a couple of primes on hand since f/4 vs. f/2.8 isn't a big differentiator when you have a fast prime or two in your camera bag.

I'll test my copy against my very good copy of the Sony 24-105mm. I'm less concerned about the performance wide open at 24mm as I have the excellent Sigma 14-24mm. And I'm also less concerned about missing the 70-105mm since I have excellent copies of the Batis 85, Batis 135 and 100-400 GM. If the Sigma is as sharp or better than my 24-105 at 24mm - 70mm at f/4 - f/8 then I'll be very happy to have the faster lens for those times the f/2.8 is needed. I've really liked the look and image quality of the many test pictures and downloaded Raw files I've inspected taken by various lens reviewers. But the versatility of the Sony 24-105mm as a one lens walk around solution is certainly a good reason to keep it.

I would love to hear your findings vs the 24-105.

I had the 24-70 GM, and while it was better than the 24-105 between 24 and 45mm, the 24-105 was better for landscape at f8 between 45 and 70 and everything above 70 was a bonus.

I would carry the extra 1/2 pound and give up 71-105mm if I could get closer to prime like performance. Many claim the Nikon z 24-70 f2.8 achieves that and I wish there would be a Sony option.

It's funny that Sony seems to have two wide options that achieve prime like performance (Sigma 14-24 and the 16-35GM) but still seems lacking at 24-70 and 70-200. It's frustrating enough to make me consider a partial move to the dark side.

I totally agree with your findings on the 24-70 GM, I had the very exact experience with my 24-70 GM vs the Sony 24-105. That is why I gave up the f/2.8 for the f/4 and extra reach but I really miss having the faster aperture available when needed. I'll post my findings when I get a chance to give them a good comparison.

OK, Ive tried a couple of copies now and they seem to exhibit the same sort of behaviour. Very sharp at 24,35 and 50 and average at 60mm+. (contrary to the first tests I read) Quite a bit of field curvature to contend with so Im still working out the best focusing depth etc to maximize sharpness for landscapes although most 24-70's seem prone to this.

I can cope with average at the 70 end as that is where I will use it the least and it is still fine for portraits as its outside the APSc circle where it falls off. At the first mentioned focal lengths Im very happy and probably the best Ive tried from multiple GM's, 24-105 G's and my old super good Canon 24-70mm II.

Anyone compare this Sigma 24-70 to the Tamron 28-75? I realize they are in a different league, but the question is if the size/weight of the Sigma is worth it in terms of image quality payoff for something general purpose.

I currently have the Tamron. It is a good walk around lens, but is not something I would call "stunning" at any focal length.

I upgraded about a week ago the difference is stark. It's a night and day change. The Sigma is certainly heftier, and I haven't taken it out for a full day yet but I think the small weight increase is worth it for me so far.

I have the Sigma 35 mm f/1.2 and absolutely love it. Stellar image quality. The tamron is only used when I travel, and even then I have barely used it. This helps.

How much heavier does it "feel". I know the specs. But for example, the 35 1.2 feels heavy, but is worth it.

There is some weight to it but as compared with the Sony 24-105mm f/4 G it is not much and it balances well on my A7RIV. Compared to how I recall the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM it seems a bit lighter. It does seem solid and it is well weather sealed.

Hey Chuck - have you had enough time to share a comparison between your Sigma and 24-105? Thanks

The Sigma 24-70 DG DN was just listed in B&H’s Deal Zone for $899 until tomorrow night. Is that the lowest price it’s been, or have you seen better?

Also, has anyone who’s purchased this lens since August 2021 experienced any of the reported dust issues?

I think that dealzone price has been 3 times a day deal, but i definitely have not seen it lower. Got mine (including tax) for 1080€, new was 1200€ but is dropping a bit to 1121 (black friday i think i've seen 1030€).

Really good lens for price. First standard zoom that gives me statisfactory landscape images on high megapixel sensor. It's my 3rd 24-70 device (Nikon VR, Sony GM, Sigma dg dn).
