Hope to go back some day and photograph them bathing in cold snowy weather, it was warm and they hardly entered the pool while I was there.
Yes, that was 9 years ago... The entire Japan was really cold that winter when I was there, especially in Hokkaido. A large part of the sea off Rausu was frozen and the same with the Setsuri River where the cranes roosted in your last image. A lot of snow monkeys spent their time in the hot spring onsen in Jigokudani while the ones not from the dominant clan were hugging each other around the pool. The experience of being exposed to Japanese wildlife in the winter was truly wonderful. I would love to go back and experience it one more time while I still can...
